View Full Version : Quick theater build on the cheap:)
ClintonH 08-19-08, 02:01 PM Just wanted to post a few pics of my theater, not really any build pics just before and after. It's really just a dedicated room not as fancy and indepth as most but it's what I could get by the wife without too much hassle.:) It's about 75% finished, just need to finish the drop ceiling and add a raiser and couch to the rear section. I will be about $700 over budget after the raiser and couch are added, not to bad. Took me 3 weekends and a few night so far, doing a full house reno so couldn't do it all at once. The equipment list and pics.
Optima HD65 (with 92" screen)<-not used - $980
40GB PS3 for Bluray etc. - $400
Denon 788 - $450
Klipsch Quintet III - $475
Klipsch RPW-10 - $300
Theater seats - $650
110" Screen (BOC) and all material - $75
Shadowbox Materials and GOM fabric - $125
Cables and speaker wire - $100
Drop ceiling with pot lights - $600
Vinyl plank flooring (Walnut) - $400
raiser with fabric - $150
Black leather Couch for second row - free (updating living room)
Total - $4705
Before Pics, sorry about the quality they were quickly taken before moving in.

ClintonH 08-19-08, 02:07 PM And the progress so far, hope to be done in the next few weeks. Makes it hard while your watching movies.:) Oh and I'm also building a door to cover the front of my AVR and PS3, it will be covered with GOM fabric as well to match.

McMurphy 08-19-08, 02:16 PM Theater seats - $650
If you don't mind, who seats and where did you get them? I'll have my room finished in about 2 weeks but will be sitting on the carpet because I can't afford seats. Is that price for all three?
HammondTigerFan 08-19-08, 02:18 PM Nice set up ClintonH and I see that you did it all at a reasonable price too. I'm having the same problem as you are having with the wife. She really couldn't justify paying alot of money to redo our home theatre system so I have to find ways to cut the budget. Check out my posting and see if you can supply me with some ideas.
HammondTigerFan 08-19-08, 02:19 PM The system will not allow me to post a link until I have 3 postings so the next response will have the link on it for my posting.

Seats come as a three piece bolt together set for the $650, this is a sale price from London Drugs. Which wont do you much good I'm afraid as they are a Canadian based company. :o

Sorry no didn't think to take any inprogress pics, it's pretty much the same as any other basic setup. :) This is what I used as a guide (http://www.eldamar.net/house/ht/screenHowTo.html) but added extra corner braces. I also didn't want to pay the extra $25 Home Depot wanted for the quarter round so I ripped a 1"X1"X8' piece of ceder into 4 and used that instead.(cost $1.50)
The shadowbox was made of 2"X2" spruce with 1/4" MDF for the boxed section. It's 18" deep and all the panels are removable around the outer edges. These are 1"x1" ceder frames wrapped in GOF fabric and held inplace by velcro.
Hope that was the info you wanted, if not ask away. :) Oh and thanks for the nice comments guys.

It's kind of a wierd layout, but the overall length is 28'6". The front section for the first 10'6" is 12'6" wide and then for the next 12'6" it's 10'6" wide. The back part of the room is 5'6" long by 7' wide, this is where the treadmill will be so it's not really part of the theater setup. Hope that made sense.
Not fancy but I just drew this so you get the idea. :)

muztheaussie 08-30-08, 12:18 AM I have the same speaker set up as you. Quintet 3 and RPW-10. They frigin crank pretty good. Are you happy with yours???? I think they sound awesome. The sub actually suprised me when I got it home. I didn't find many reviews on it so I was a little worried it would be no good, but it produces some awesome bass. I have the Sony AW-15 projector though and I am very happy with it too. I will take some pics of my set up and post them for you to check out.
