If I buy an HDTV antenna, will it still be able to recieve analog signals. I live in Windsor Ontario which is very close to Detriot, which has lots of HD channels. However, many of the tv signals on the Canadian side of the border are still in analog. I'm looking for an antenna that work well for both the digital and analog spectrums. Any suggestions?

I was at Best Buy today, and most (if not all) antennas that got HD signals also got analog signals. The $10 antenna I bought gets both.

An antenna is an antenna. Saying it's an "HDTV antenna" is just a marketing gimmick.

Just make sure it's optimized to receive both VHF and UHF if you need that.

With out getting into all the details, you need a directional VHF/UHF antenna, mounted outdoors, as high as possible. If the Windsor stations are in a different direction than the Detroit ones (all in Southfield), you'll also need a rotor.

Depending how far away from Southfield you are, this may be a good starting point: http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?PROD=HD7080P

Digital (including HD) and analog TV use the same set of channels, although obviously any single channel can carry only either an analog signal or a digital one, not both at the same time. So a VHF antenna can receive any analog or digital station that's strong enough according to the antenna's gain (sensitivity). Similarly for UHF antennas, or combo VHF/UHF antennas.

To put it another way, VHF is VHF and UHF is UHF, regardless of whether the signal is analog or digital.

Labeling antennas as "HDTV antennas" is purely a marketing gimmick. Most of those antenna designs have been sold for decades.
