View Full Version : Thinking of buying an MFW-15. Is it right for me?
Mmarcum 08-20-08, 11:43 AM Hi guys! I wanted to get some input before I made the plunge on getting an MFW-15 for my new condo that I will be moving into next week. I've made this tentative decision mainly based off budget; the MFW looks to be the best thing I can get for my price range ($500-$700) but wanted to see if there were any options I may have missed.
My home theater will be in a 12x15' room (8' ceiling, i think) with wooden floors (will be getting a SubDude to put it on), and my speakers are Tannoy Reveals (nearfield monitors with 6.5" drivers - 4 Reveals, and 1 Reveal X center channel). I have an Onkyo SR-805. I plan on putting the sub directly behind the couch between it and the wall, both to conceal it and keep it close so I don't have to crank it up as much.
My listening habits are roughly 60% gaming, 30% movies, and 10% music. I like the plain black finish the MFW has; I'm not too picky on appearance.
I know subs and condos don't always go well together, but I got an end unit that should help a bit, and there is a fair bit of distance between my listening area and the next unit. I also know I will have no neighbours for at least 2 months (long story, but that's for sure). I obviously won't be going crazy with the volume levels all the time, but I want something that will really kick when I can crank it up.
If I missed anything, let me know. Overall, the MFW-15 seems to fit my bill the best but I just really wanted to check my options. Thanks in advance for any opinions!

If may help to provide a bit of additional cushioning between your sub and your downstairs neighbors (assuming you have them), by getting something called a Subdude. Thick rubber matt you place under your subwoofer.
Any sub that can go deep and play loud can bring someone tapping on your front door. Even so, people are reporting that by being careful they have gone for 2-3 years before they get any complaint.
Doing some of your listening on the weekends is a tried and true method of keeping the peace.
Just to repeat, any sub that would be in the same class as the MFW can shake the walls and floor, so you may as well get what you want.
Some people have suggested that when your neighbors have moved in, invite them over to see a movie. If you can get them to come over, they are less likely to complain.
rydenfan 08-20-08, 01:37 PM Didnt he say in his first statement that he is getting a subdude??
tjarrett999 08-20-08, 04:33 PM I have 2 MFW-15s and from what you are saying you want from a sub I think that the MFW-15 is perfect. They are beasts. Hopefully your neighbors like to feel it too because if you do get it you will want to crank it up to see what it can do.
I say go for it. You won't be disappointed with it.
Mmarcum 08-20-08, 04:34 PM Hehe yeah, I do plan to get a SubDude, if nothing else to help with rattles and vibrations a bit. But I won't have any downstairs neighbors; it's a townhouse-style condo; my garage will be directly below my home theater. Thanks.
Any other suggestions/recommendations?

If you have no one above or below you and you are in an outside unit then I think that you will be fine with the MFW-15.
My only suggestion would be to give the guys at av123 a call and get your order in. I think they are in stock now, or on very short wait based on an email I just received from them over the weekend. Actually if I remember correctly they are giving a $70 credit to you towards your next purchase if you order a satin black one now. I would call them and ask about it.
Luis Gabriel Gerena 08-20-08, 06:15 PM That is indeed correct....we have Moho, Cherry and Black in stock and next week we are receiving another BIG shipment so we should be fine for a while.
The offer is $70 Gift Card (store credit) that you can use after Sept 15th when buying the Satin Black MFW15 or get the Moho or Cherry which normally sell for $799 for only $719.
Thanks for the interest in our products. :)
Mmarcum 08-20-08, 08:20 PM Thanks everybody! You really helped me make my decision, which is to get one. I emailed AV123 to see if they still have a special pricing on 2 of the MFW's, as I convinced a friend to buy one as well, so I figured why not save a bit if we can?
tjarrett999 08-21-08, 11:14 AM Luis, who posted above works for AV123 as a sales rep, and is a nice guy. (He helped me with my last order I made with AV123.) Instead of waiting for an email I would give them a call today and talk to the sales department and see what they can work out for you with pricing on two.
Good Luck, and I am sure you are going to love the MFW-15.
