Its unbelievable fun, still going strong 1 year since release. The only issue is there is a STEEP learning curve, and the game has gotten more complex with the addition of new weapons, etc. But its well worth it if you put in some time and patience.

up to 32 players at once. The action is plenty intense (or most intense I've seen in a game) depending on the map and game mode.

I also don't like FCTF, I think it ruins the entire point of capturing bases and fighting for ground. It also allows one team to utterly and totally dominate if they are decent in planes, even more so than usual.

Don't know yet, but the trailer shows people getting into rifle battles with other soldiers while in the air with the pack on. Its gonna be awesome, I love what they've done with Warhawk. It amazes me that it hasn't sold way more copies, Sony didn't market it enough at all.

I know about it from the Daily Show. I watched for 3-4 years and probably sat through about 50+ "...or NAMBLA!" jokes without realizing why it was so funny. That is until they actually covered a story on NAMBLA and I was shocked to find out what it actually was. I thought it was another joke!

Not sure if I'll get this one. Doesn't seem like that many people on Omega Dawn, really. Not nearly the server crowd there used to be, either. Still having fun with it, though.

well, the omega dawn pack pretty much sucked @$$ compared to broken mirror. the drop ship is worthless, the omega map has limited fun because it's so big and it just never caught on. i believe tau crater will be a good map, and the jet pack will be pretty neat.

This is very true with the Sony servers. People are just not using them as much. Typically there are 2-3 expert servers that have people in them. However, there seems to be more and more personal servers up. There has been some sort of rift in the Warhawk time-space-skill level continuum. The players on the blue servers seem to be much better than in the past (I often struggle to score in the top five, which used to be fairly common), so some natural selection is likely taking place where the better players are choosing the blue servers. Maybe the better players are continuing to play the game and the lesser players have abandoned it, leading to a shift in player skill level.

I am interested to see how the expansion changes things.

As for the new level, Tau Crater, there will be 10 different layouts ranging from the full map to sectioned-off areas for close quarters battles.

"You can’t lock-on with any Warhawk missiles, the heat signature from the jet-pack is just too small. The Warhawk machine guns though do provide a bit of aim assist against jet-packs. The troop rocket launcher is the only weapon that can acquire a lock on a Jetpack"

"The v1.5 patch does has a fix for the exploit that allowed players to get under the water and then up underneath the levels. This sucked and we’re really hoping that the latest fix resolves the issues!

I know what you mean about the lag. We haven’t changed any code in the game specific to network latency and packet broadcasting so we need to ping our network team in San Diego and see what they notice after the v1.5 patch is deployed on Wednesday.

As far as another update or booster, that’s really SONY’s call. The executives in the Santa Monica studio make those decisions."

"There is nothing stopping a player from bailing from their aircraft if they are taking a lot of damage. It creates a great tension moment as you want to try an destroy the other aircraft before the other player can react and eject. Those two layouts have the same top-down map but different base/layout configurations. So they seem similar in the little graphics I used for the blog post. Can you give me the specific glitch you are talking about? There are no known valid rank-up issues…emphasis on known Most of the time it is people failing to get a prerequisite

Unfortunately there is no really good way to stop padding. We could institute some really horrible rules to lessen it…but it would really just suck for all of the normal players too. But you are right, a player could technically just form a clan get 10 players to join it and then disband the clan.

"The D-RAD will continue to generate jetpacks during its construction phase. It never really runs out.



Initially we tried it that way but found the opposing team could just starve a main base of jet packs and then the base-slaughter was totally unbearable. This way players always have a fast way to get out of their base if its getting trashed."

As far as unavailable areas, let me try to explain:




YES, there are some areas you can get to now that you couldn’t previously. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. As you all know, the game was not originally modeled for jetpacks that would allow players to get anywhere they wanted. So we had to do some retro-fitting to get this to work.

Now the retro-fitting was not any visible geometry so don’t worry, it wont change the layouts. What I mean is that in some places where you couldn’t land the Warhawk, we really wanted you to be able to land with a jetpack. So we had to fix these spots.

There were also some ares that we didn’t or rather, couldn’t let you land in a jetpack for numerous reasons. So we had to fix these too.



One of the key behaviors of the jetpack is to auto-detect if it can land in a specific area. So even if you fly up to a roof-top, that the game says “no, you can’t land there” , the jetpack will just keep you in hover mode with your feet off the ground. So it’s like you are standing on the surface anyway but without introducing funky collision problems with the older levels.



Hopefully this clears things up a little.



As far as speed goes, its really hard to describe but I can tell you the team spent a lot of time tunning just the right normal and boosted speeds. I think you’ll just need to play it and see.

Sorry to hear about your bandwidth situation but…technically, you can still get this trophy if you host a server with a lower player count. I know that in your case you may never get enough players to get out of “Pre-Game” but you will still be awarded the trophy for you efforts.

The team and I greatly appreciate your, and many player’s loyalty. You buy expansions right when they come out and so when SONY releases a bundle of multiple boosters, it feels like SONY is giving a better deal to new players.




I know this will sound kinda crapy but…giving a good deal to new players and getting them into the Warhawk Universe is intentional.




Making you feel bad certainly is not good and *not* the goal at all…but giving new players an easier entry point is. Its kinda the same reason why we added the training tutorials .. they benefit new player *far* more than hardcore players. It’s not that we don’t care, quite the contrary, You hard core players are still the reason we develop FREE updates and boosters. But its just that we’re at a time in Warhawk’s life-cycle that we need to reach out to new players as well.


Its just the way business is sometimes.

Hope that makes sense.

The v1.5 Update goes LIVE world-wide, Wednesday @ 10:00 to 16:00 GMT…That means we have a server maintenance window from 2am to 8am Pacific time.

After we bring the servers back online after 8am Pacific, you all will be good to play.

Technically speaking, the v1.5 Update will go LIVE at 2am Pacific and you can download it then…but you wont be able to play until we bring the global server set back up."

Good question!

The Jetpack always gives a bit more falling damage protection but if you were really high up in the air when you disengage your jetpack engines, and then fall all the way to the ground, you will explode on impact.

You can always re-engage your engines and help decelerate but if you’ve been in free-fall for too long, you’re SOL.

And no, you do not take damage if you boost into a wall

I would love to have women in Warhawk as well, but we are running into the same issue that we players wanting more and more character customizations. With the core game and the booster-pack memory reserve, there just simply isn’t much more memory left for it in Warhawk.

Currently there are no big new features for Clans in the works. There is a really great tournament XML feed that will be accessible to the public so any player(s) can host tournaments…but the network team in San Diego is still working on it. Once we have more info I’ll post an update.

And I hate to be the barer of bad news but the “hardware-2″ rumor was just that…a rumor. The team and I are not collaborating with Studio Liverpool on that game. Not sure how that rumor even started, and then picked up by that blog in Europe.

You can pilot a plane, drive a 4×4, and mount any vehicle or turret just like normal. You can’t get a jetpack off a dead body like you do when you get weapons from a fallen enemy’s backpack.

And yes, some of our trophies are on the tough side…but hey, some are damn easy to. And since some of the are retroactive, you may have already earned some.

Cool, thanks. Just downloaded it and the servers were down for me as well. I was able to try out the tutorials and custom music. Apparently I earned a few trophies from trying the tutorials..pretty nifty.

1) Yes. You need to buy Fallen Star.

2) Official servers have many different types of games for every expansion pack option, including none, Broken Mirror, Fallen Star, etc... so if you wanted to just buy the original game only, you could still find a server with a CTF, Zones, DM, Dogfight, etc. game running on it. I wouldn't count on it having a lot of people on it though... ;)

Yes, they will have to be bought (you'll also get the new map). No different then Broken Mirror/APC. I assume Sony will have some servers up running the new map (as they did with BM)...

don't worry... kekborg and alpha have had it for quite some time and are still awful. in fact i think they've gotten worse since they first played. :eek:

You can say that again, this game is not kind to newbies....That said the newest patch. 1.5, is said to offer tutorials that you'll find useful. My biggest advice, besides RUN out and get this game, is to be PATIENT. It pays big rewards once you can keep up with the other players to a certain degree.....Still going strong as ever and the guys at the office as well 1 year since the games launch.

In game custom music (mp3s off PS3 harddrive) is pretty sweet... A little old school Metallica goes well with the mayhem. Iron Maiden is next. Only thing, do I have to quit to stop the mp3s and go back to regular Warhawk music? I don't see an option to stop it from in game XMB.

I think it's similar to how it was done on SSHD. There is a control on there but I don't remember what it looks like.

it took me awhile to figure this out. there is a player control at the top of the music column; it's not at the current song being played.
there also does not seem to be a way to turn the xmb music down. i have the warhawk music turned way down (so i can hear these basterts sneaking up on me), but in game xmb music was loud! i couldn't find a way to turn it down w/out turning game sound fx down as well.

edit: the xmb music was "hannah montana;" it's my daughter's and it's all i have. i swear it.

When you hold L2 you will go in the direction of the left stick... albeit slowly. R2 is a bit touchy... yeah.. Last night right before I would hit R2 I would let go of my left stick then jam it in the direction I wanted to go then hit R2, just to be sure. A good way to practice is stay on the ground... then it's real clear what does what. Plus double tapping R2 on the ground is a riot... you move like The Flash... :D

A lot of you guys know I have a massive hatred for Warhawk and I think it absolutely blows chunks... but for some reason, that jet pack expansion has me wishing I never sold off the game lol

I can see myself playing with it for hours on end :eek:

If you hold R2 down all the way you'll gain altitude no matter which direction you're facing (unless it's down? - I haven't tried). If you hold R2 2/3 - 3/4 of the way down you'll just go in the direction you choose with no altitude adjustments.

i got on your server but it was just me so i quit. i did figure out the jetpack a little better; you were right about holding r2 down .5 or .75. i joined a couple of tdms w/ jetpacks and guys have clearly been practicing. i sucked. it felt like when i first got this game. i did get the "bug on the windshield" trophy though.

i need a tip from some of you pros. if i can get the "warhawk aerial" badge (the one where you need 3 warhawk machinegun kills iar), i'll jump up three or four ranks, but i haven't had any luck so far. i decided to just get it over with today but i can't do it! i hate being in a warhawk and the frustration i get by not being able to do this makes it worse. give me an easy way to get this badge.

Jump in one of the official Sony servers that are Dogfight only. Hog all of the lightning, stealth, and homing missles. Stay high, right below the stall point, line up damaged hawks below you, lock on with homing missle, rinse, repeat.

The whole WW crew is 99% about laughs and 01% about strategy. I think the 01% is just Brandon. :D

As of late, for some reason, alpha has started the :rolleyes: thingy which is just plain...well, it plain old ghey but that's how he rolls and we must respect it. As long as your not getting kicked from the server (sorry again mulder :o:(), then your fitting in :) and hopefully having fun :)

I would recommend finding a dogfight server with "unlimited" for winning score and 30 minutes. The Sony servers usually have a set limit for the score and the game always ends before I can get the 5 kills. It took me 25 minutes in a round to finally get it, though that was many moons ago. I was stuck on that particular rank for about 2 months because I couldn't get it, and then gave up trying for about 3 weeks. Ask Matzira :D

Turning them off in between games... during the countdown to the next match before it hits zero. That has worked for me so far, but it's a pain in the rear... :mad:

I gave my lil bro a PS3 for Christmas last year, but he doesn't have the cash flow to make alot of purchases on PSN. I'd like to get him the add on pack for Warhawk. I was gonna have him put my info onto his PS3 with a diff password and let him buy it that way...but the implication by a previous poster is that it can be easier than that. Does anyone know how I can do that? I want to do it the legal way...no shenanigans. He is in Florida and I am in Cali, so I can't just walk my CC info over to him to walk him through this. Can I purchase it through a sub account or something like that?

The way sharing works:
1. You buy something from PSN.
2. Someone else on a different PS3 signs in through your account (as you), goes to transaction history and downloads whatever you bought from PSN.
3. Whatever is downloaded to the PS3 works for all accounts (provided it's not a restricted sub-account) local to the PS3.

Sub-accounts vary by the access granted through the master account. You can create a separate one just for him. It will be a different PSN ID from what he uses now. This process is the same thing as what I describe above but would enable you to pay twice for the same thing.

Concerns:
1. Legality - depending on your local jurisdiction the chances are this isn't illegal, at least not in a conventional sense. That said I didn't read the fine print of the user agreement and they probably have some sticky language that could get you but would be difficult to enforce globally. As to whether it's ethical, that's a personal decision.
2. Access to your account - if you don't trust the someone else before you hand over the login and password info you should clear any stored CC and other private information and then change it back once the someone else has finished downloading.
3. Download access - you only get to download a purchase 4 times. I started PS3-ing on my nephew's unit then bought my own. I can now only download previous purchases two more times before I'll need to re-purchase them again.

It's not illegal and has been promoted by Sony as a way to get more media to more people and increase the future demand for products. The only limitations come in the form of is the file downloaded accessible on all accounts as some are not (ie. Warhawk full game can only be played on the account it was downloaded too), and number of PS3 that can access/download a file (limited to 5)The way sharing works:

There is no paying twice if the file is not a game like Warhawk. I have a sub account, and 4 friends sub accounts. And we all share alike. If you download all the games, addons to the sub account, then that's account information that you will want to give your brother. I've never like the idea of giving out my main accout for security purposes.

So like I said it will wind up looking like this. You and he have a master main account for playing eachother. But on each PS3 you will have a second account for downloads. On yours it will be your sub account, and on his it will be your sub accout, but the payments are linked to your main, not his. If you always remember to download stuff to the sub account the info can be shared between the 2 PS3 without issues (with the exception like I mentioned before of games that are restricted, ie warhawk).

So here is my question? Have you downloaded a buch of stuff already (that you want to share) to your main account. If so you have 2 options. Or set up a new sub account that pulls money out of your main accout (I have the spending limit set to only what is in the master though (ie. no more can be added;) but your preference can be to charge what ever and your a more trusting man than I) and from here on out you redownload all that you want to share and you download anything new that you want or want to share on this accoutn. Again you give your brother this information of email/pass and he just creates a new user on his PS3. So once you download something, you tell him to hope onto your Sub/downloading accout, go to transaction history and just redownload what he wants - it will just now end up on his PS3 too. Pretty cool if you ask me for Sony to allow this.

So like I said it will wind up looking like this. You and he have a master main account for playing eachother. But on each PS3 you will have a second account for downloads. On yours it will be your sub account, and on his it will be your sub accout, but the payments are linked to your main, not his. If you always remember to download stuff to the sub account the info can be shared between the 2 PS3 without issues (with the exception like I mentioned before of games that are restricted, ie warhawk).

Thanks for the clarifications and corrections. It's refreshing to see Sony's take on this; so often corporations miss the forest through the trees.

flagyl - in case it's not abundantly clear you don't pay twice for anything but the premium full games per Sony. And as dogdoc says, when you buy stuff do it on the new shared sub-account rather than your current master account (the master will have the same access). There will be a few exceptions only on the premium full games such as Warhawk (you will have to pay for that twice - if you want the download version and not the disc then you should buy it first through your master account and then again through your sub-account {but don't download it again through the sub-account}).

Loving this new update, if you're on the fence jump on it, the jetpack is a scream. New map is awesome too.
