I am moving to a first floor apt in NYC - location about 5-8 miles from most broadcasts acc to antennaweb.
Will an indoor HDTV be enough? Building rules do not allow placement of outdoor antennas, am I screwed here?
Thanks.

The first floor could be tough. Do you have a window or on the side of the building facing in the direction of the Empire State Building where most of the broadcast antennas are located? Even if you are not, you might be able to get the stations from signals reflecting off of other buildings. You won't know until you try. In NYC, WABC-DT 7, WPIX-DT CW 11, WNET-DT PBS 13 will move their digital channels from UHF to their upper VHF analog channel next February. So you need to receive upper VHF and UHF, not just UHF. For starters, try an inexpensive AND NON-AMPLIFIED indoor antenna with a UHF loop and VHF rabbit ears. That may be all you need.
