All,
We're about to finish our theater off, and I want to get another PS3. I do still play a lot of PS2 games, so BC is important to me. What are my options as far as getting a BC unit at this point in the game? Which models have it?
Thanks!

If you can find an MGS4 bundle that is really your only decent option for a new one.

Yep.
Sony is phasing out BC PS3s for good, so you have to act fast. If you can't get the MGS4 bundle, you pretty much have to go eBay and maybe get a used one.
Or you can purchase a 60g model from ebay. That's what I'm looking to do.

If you play a lot of PS2 games, it'd be worth checking the PS3 web site. Hidden somewhere in there is a site where you input the titles you play. It'll come back and tell you any compatibility issues with the various models. The BC 80 gig models used software emulation, whereas the 60 and 20 gig models actually had the PS2 Emotion Engine and PS2 graphics chips. Might want to check it out and make sure there's no deal breakers there. Either way, good luck!

Or you could do something crazy. Get a PS2. Even though I have a 80 MGS model, I didnt want my daughter putting the hours she does with her PS2 games on the PS3's set:p. So got a used one off the bay and stuck it in a different room. $75 local pick up for machine, 2 mem cards, 2 contr, and 8 games. Sold the games on the bay for $65. Hey free backwards compatability. Plus you wont even care if the thing blows up:D

That's what I'm going to do. Why go out and get backwards PS3 now "just to have one". When I have an 360 and I rarely rent movies. As I plan on getting a PS3 in the future once the price goes down.
Besides, the only PS2 I would want to play is Gallop Racer!!!

I actually have a PS2 already :)
I like playing my PS2 games on the PS3 because of upscaling, wireless remote, and cabling restrictions (i.e. one less connection).
GOW 1 on the PS3 is an amazing upgrade over the PS2 naively. Same with Kingdom Hearts. Those are the only ones I'm currently playing... So I don't have much else to judge on.
