View Full Version : If you could only play one game what would it be?

Say you had to marry a video game and you could only be with that game the rest of your life and play no others. What game would you select? It can only be one game so no swinger (multiple) answers allowed, lol pretend your on a desert island (with electricity lol) with a 40" 1080p Samsung Lcd and you can have only one video game to play for the rest of your life.

Here is my choice:

NHL94 on the Sega Genesis
I am a Football fan, but this game made me a hockey fan back in the day! It represents everything a video game should be; FUN!

As great as our technology and graphics are today, a lot of modern games have lost the focus of the FUN aspect.

NHL94 has unlimited addictive replay value especially if you have friends around...it is the ultimate party game and one of the first games to allow four players at once!!

I have been playin this masterpiece again on the Gens emulator paired with the wired xbox 360 controller and I must say it is a match made in heaven!!

Does orange box count? Or a steam account?

I would honestly say a madden game. I play it more then any other, but I would miss rts on pc, fps co op with my friends, and racing with friends. It would be a difficult decision. Hell I still play starcraft and homm3 from 1998. I just add more games, never less.

Clearly, there is no other choice but Rock Band. Now obviously this would require hardware that can actually last more than two play sessions without breaking, but this is a different matter altogether...

I quit World of Warcraft quite a while ago, but I have to say, if I could only ever play one game for my entire life, it would be that... simply because there's so much to do and it's always evolving/changing.

I say my favorite all time game would be Tribes 1. I'd choose that if it magically updated graphically with the times.

No but I've seen enough gameplay footage and demonstrations to know. Not to mention, just about every gaming site out there that has gotten their hands on it couldn't say enough for how fun it was.

For me it would definately be an MMORPG. I quit FFXI years ago, but was pretty well established when I quit. I would probably pick that up again, because that's the only game I was able to play for ungodly amounts of time and stay content.

Thats like marrying a girl you never met, but only heard about. Good luck with that.

Mine would have to be a football game. Since it would be the last game I'd ever play it would have to be NCAA. Only reason I'd pick it over Madden is because if I'm on a deserted island, the variety of teams NCAA offers would be what I would need over the long haul.

I don’t know that I can make this kind of commitment.

If I absolutely had to choose though it would have to be a big open world type game. I have never played a WoW or any MMORPG so I guess I can't list one of them as my one game. So I would have to pick between Morrowind or maybe even Daggerfall (but I would like them upgraded to next gen graphics)....so I guess Morrowind.
NCAA would be on my short list, but since theres a chance I would smash the controller through the last TV, I have to rule it out.... I need to take my sports game less seriously.

But if I had to sit down right now and play ANY game just one last time before I died, it wouldn’t be either of those games then it would be something like Chronicles of Riddick or Gears of War or COD4.

08-22-08, 03:25 PM
I would have to choose from:

Mario Party, Goldeneye 007, COD4, Counter-Strike, Forza 2 or Rock Band

Obviously it would have to be multiplayer. Even better if its on the same console.

Cygnus311
08-22-08, 03:43 PM
Well it WOULD be LittleBigPlanet since that WILL be my favorite game ever but since that doesn't work for you guys I'll go ahead and say Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness. :) ZUG ZUG!

Hmmm.... tough choices indeed.

If I had to pick something now, at this moment...

Day of Defeat (version 1.3) with all the sounds from my sound pack and all the new textures I used to use.

My friend and I LOVED this game. Played it all day, all night. We used to be so good at the game that the two of us could easily take on 4-8 seasoned DOD players and still win. In fact, I can recall many many times where it was just us at the top of the team with scores like 72 kills - 6 deaths and the average score for every other player was something like 22 kills - 18 deaths and so on... We got accused of cheating all the time which was hilarious and sad at the same time. Whiny server owners would kick us sometimes because we kicked that much ass. Though we got along with people just fine. Then the game got changed radically with version 2.0 and then... Half Life 2 came out so now its DoD:Source. Just not the same anymore now.

Also, pre version 1.0 Counter Strike was our other playground. I owned with the AK. I was an AK master back then.

I miss those days... :(

For the 360 I would say Gears of War. However all time it has to be a Blizzard game (either Starcraft or Diablo 2). I purposly avoided WoW, but did get sucked into Guild Wars for a while.

Same here, DOD 1.3 was great. Remember that map "The Hill" Sniping down the hill or trying to sneak up the hill without getting sniped. I was so let down with DOD Source.

if it was any game, it would be the arcade version of Killer Instinct, with the HD hard drive...

if it was only for a video game system, than it would be the original Ghost Recon for the original Xbox. i remember back in the day, when XBL was released, pretty much everyone on XBL played it. there was a time when i played it every night for about 4 months straight... lol

Super Mario RPG

But to be totally honest, (and to cheat), I would pick some kind of MMORPG. Not only would it imply that I have internet access, I can also talk to other people, and play what would be a very, very long game which is never ending, expansion packs, and I could get gold and trade it for money. So to cheat I would pick WOW

p.s. it's really funny to see that so many people aren't getting this thread LOL. It's a gun to your head type question. Just pick one, no BS, which one would it be? You can't say "it'd be one of x....y.....z..." and you OBVIOUSLY can't choose a game that hasn't even been released yet!

Thank you Ultracat, you completely understand the question! To further elaborate...I am basically saying choose your favorite game of all time, the number one pick that you could choose and only choose. It can be an MMO, sports title, whatever...any genere of game.

This is a game that you should be able to play over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over for the next 40-60years of your life, so yes choose wisely. For example Oblivion is an amazing game but could you stand to play it constantly for 20+years??

And if it helps your selection, a friend can be stranded on the island with you so you have somebody to play coop and 2player with.

It was a strong toss up for me with NHL94, Madden93 and Halo.

Shadowrun

Love NHL94.

As far as only game, probably the original Halflife if I can get the CS and DoD mods too. Each in their own right would be up there separately (maybe I was the only one to love the original halflife team multiplayer maps like Bounce and the Refinery).

Twisted Metal 2 and 1 certainly get mention as does Morrowind. I'd also like to start my Ultima IV game over and play from the beginning. I never did finish it.

As far as my choice...

Hmmmm well if it was the only game I could play...ever. I would have to say Madden 09or NCAA Football 09. Not that they are my favorite of all time but they are something I could play over and over and not get too bored with it too quickly.

If not them then I would have to say Orange Box.

EDIT: On second thought...After using the OPs marriage analogy I definitely pick Orange Box. That would be like marrying five Hot chicks. Who could ever get tired of that? :D

That's not necessarily the same thing for me. I stand my previous choice of Rock Band, since it's the only game I could imagine playing over and over again, plus the DLC extends the life of the game almost infinitely.

But Rock Band is NOT my favorite game of all time - probably not even top three.

I've played for 100+ hours and I still haven't done everything (ie, played all races, bought all and furnished all houses, slaughtered entire villages, try to beat the game using only a bow, yadda yadda yadda.)
