View Full Version : If you could only play one game what would it be?
l88bastard 08-22-08, 12:20 PM Say you had to marry a video game and you could only be with that game the rest of your life and play no others. What game would you select? It can only be one game so no swinger (multiple) answers allowed, lol pretend your on a desert island (with electricity lol) with a 40" 1080p Samsung Lcd and you can have only one video game to play for the rest of your life.
Here is my choice:
NHL94 on the Sega Genesis
I am a Football fan, but this game made me a hockey fan back in the day! It represents everything a video game should be; FUN!
As great as our technology and graphics are today, a lot of modern games have lost the focus of the FUN aspect.
NHL94 has unlimited addictive replay value especially if you have friends around...it is the ultimate party game and one of the first games to allow four players at once!!
I have been playin this masterpiece again on the Gens emulator paired with the wired xbox 360 controller and I must say it is a match made in heaven!!

phipp01 08-22-08, 01:13 PM Super Mario brothers I absolutely loved that game. My second choice would be Pacman on the Atari. I know you said no swingers but I still included my second choice :D
Durbo20vT 08-22-08, 01:15 PM NHL94/95 OR PunchOut!
Street Fighter 2 Turbo is also a consideration.
Malcolm_B 08-22-08, 01:15 PM Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Have it on the Wii and go back all the time (when the relative stop borrowing the dang system, that is!).
bdwright77 08-22-08, 01:16 PM Metal Gear Solid 3: Snakeater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cygnus311 08-22-08, 01:31 PM Again, LittleBigPlanet is the only correct answer.
Fort Apocalypse - c64 version :)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snakeater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This.

PursuitGT 08-22-08, 03:42 PM Pong?
Cygnus311 08-22-08, 03:44 PM Little League Baseball for the NES never gets old. I'm serious.
Perfect Dark: Nitendo 64 <<<Greatest game of all time.
(So much to do with all the chalanges, and that bastard Perfect Sim) What??....Laptop Gun!!!
Hell yeah. The laptop gun is awesome- I used to love tossing it behind someone hiding under cover. Too good.
Unfortunately the framerate was freaking awful.
Mattdoc 08-22-08, 03:59 PM Total Annihilation was amazing, and I still love to play the Krogoth Challenge.
Rogue Squadron III but updated for 2008, on PS3 and 1080p
kdavis220 08-23-08, 06:04 PM Asheron's Call. Surprised no one has said Tetris yet...
Abaddon 08-24-08, 11:36 AM Easy answer, Rock Band. That's almost all I play these days anyway. As long as you could get DLC via satellite :D
Big_Mog 08-24-08, 11:38 AM Ff7
macdumpy 08-24-08, 01:09 PM Moria! (a Rogue clone)
Does anyone but me remember that?
instantpop 08-24-08, 02:42 PM The only game every year that holds my interest from release to following release is FIFA, so I'd have to go with that.
KingShorty 08-24-08, 02:50 PM The only game every year that holds my interest from release to following release is FIFA, so I'd have to go with that.
aren't we two sides to the same coin. Pro Evolutions Soccer/Winning Eleven series for me!
pbicich 08-24-08, 03:03 PM Super Mario 64
Kingram 08-24-08, 03:13 PM Grand Turismo 5 prologue
runner up- Warhawk
fuseman13 08-24-08, 06:54 PM Hide the salami with Heidi Klum FTW!
But if I had to choose a video game, I'd have to say Galaga
MaxDam77 08-25-08, 11:45 AM Fifa 2008 or 2009 :D
A sport game is never boring with friends. An adventure game even my fav series the metal gear solid will get on my nerves if I had to play it over and over.
smastroyin 08-25-08, 11:46 AM I would bring Haze as some kind of social experiment to see if instead of getting tired of a game I like, I would learn to appreciate a really crappy game.
Gmichael2 08-25-08, 01:07 PM No competition. Burnout in Paradise.
Although, that may be because I've only had it for a week.
kekborg 08-25-08, 01:56 PM Super Rub-A-Dup.
instantpop 08-25-08, 05:35 PM aren't we two sides to the same coin. Pro Evolutions Soccer/Winning Eleven series for me!
Ha, I guess so. I like FIFA because I personally think it's the better game now. EA has gone above and beyond anything that PES has done over the last few years in terms of refining their engine and making the gameplay better. Not to say there aren't issues with FIFA, but the developers do a great job of listening to the community and addressing them. The release of UEFA 2008 proved that because it is easily the best soccer game ever made (even though I'm not a fan of country football).
Plus, I love my EPL clubs and not being able to play as them just bothers me. It used to be a trade off but it simply isn't any more. The best "next-gen" football experience is the FIFA series in my opinion. Many reviews from die hard soccer fans said the same thing last year and the Metacritic numbers (for whatever they are worth) ranked FIFA above PES last year as well.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess ;)

COD 4 (Online)
Im suprised more people dont say online games. I would get bord with any game, great or not, if it was the same thing over and over. Online play keeps things fresh.
Id say Counter Strike. Most of my friends play it, and its definitely my favorite FPS. dont know why...
TomInCanada 08-26-08, 01:07 PM The correct answer is of course Diablo 2.
However I give props to the guy who said Fort Apocalypse.. that game ruled.
lets update this tread, PS3 games only. I still have not found a game that I really really like, possibly Red Dead Redemption will be the one.
For now my vote goes to Civ Revolutions
taskman 06-04-10, 05:12 PM I think the OP should remove online games as a possibility. I know my wife doesnt get whole body make overs every 3 months or so!
For me, the answer is MOO2 or Master of Orion 2 for those that don't know. I could play that forever.
Demon's Souls. With SO many different ways to play it I don't think it would get old.
Abaddon 06-04-10, 07:51 PM I came into this thread to vote for Rock Band, only to see that I had already voted for Rock Band when the thread was originally made. I guess my prediction was good :p
Krieger119 06-04-10, 11:33 PM ModNation Racers
confidenceman 06-05-10, 03:09 AM I'd say it's a toss-up between BlazBlue and Red Dead Redemption. Neither is my favorite game, but I could happily put more hours into either of those than any other.
OnlookerDelay 06-05-10, 06:06 PM MLB 09/10: The Show... a game that even the designers of Madden 2010 admitted is the best team sports game ever made!
moothemagiccow 06-05-10, 09:25 PM fat princess
Paul Norman's Forbidden Forest for the C64!!

shubjero 06-06-10, 06:41 AM Uncharted 2. Amazing graphics, sound, story, and multiplayer once it's all said and done!
Im2sexy 06-06-10, 08:29 AM Super Mario brothers!!!!
pcweber111 06-06-10, 11:02 AM Either ES:IV or Fallout 3. No other game will suffice.
Zookster 06-06-10, 02:56 PM Hall of Fame Pinball: The Williams Collection. A must-have for anyone over 40.
shaddix 06-06-10, 05:00 PM online: diablo 3

Boston Litigator 06-06-10, 08:07 PM NHL 2010
Uncharted 2
frankthetoad 06-06-10, 10:08 PM I second Goldeneye. It's the only reason I've kept my Wii. I keep hoping that it will come out on the Virtual Console...
Dashboard 06-07-10, 08:35 AM online: diablo 3
offline: goldeneye
ps3...... pass lol
So, how's Diablo 3 Mr.Future??!?
I'm still playing Diablo 2 so I would like to know what Diablo 3 will be like ;)
niembre 06-07-10, 09:28 AM Tecmo Superbowl or Mike Tyson's Punchout!! It would be a tough decision which one to take.
Cysquatch 06-07-10, 11:02 AM http://i50.tinypic.com/1y7kgi.jpg
Age of Booty, provided I can play online from the island

PS3 only please:)
krimson 06-07-10, 02:55 PM I think the OP should remove online games as a possibility.
Why? Some of us play games almost solely for the online content. I don't think there is a single offline game out there that could hold my interest for more then 1-2 months.
For me it would be a toss up between Street Fighter and WoW. Street Fighter has had it's claws in me for the past year, but I think WoW gives the best overall experience if your stuck playing 1 game for eternity.
world of warcraft...
but seriously if you liked NHL 94, you should really try NHL 09 or 10, they really made the game fun again

NHL94, was that the game you had to shoot the puck over the goalie's head from the blue line in order to score? Oh no, it was Stanley Cup Hockey (or something like that, on SNES). That game would keep me playing for ages trying to find a way to score a legit goal :p It was impossible to score without that glitch :D
