Film Synopsis:

Meet Jesse (Ashton Kutcher TV's "That '70's Show") and Chester (Seann William Scott American Pie) two dimwitted yet lovable party animals who wake up one morning with a burning question: Dude Where's My Car? Their only clues are a matchbook cover from Kitty Kat strip club and a year's supply of pudding in the fridge. As they retrace their steps these dudes are in for the ride of their lives encountering hot alien chicks dodging killer ostriches and trying to score "special treats" from their ticked-off twin girlfriends.

My Take:

After watching this film I can easily understand why I have never seen it. Over the top and silly this film features Scott and Kutcher as two burn outs that wake up one morning in their house and have no recollection of the prior day’s events. They receive a phone call from their girlfriends Wanda and Wilma who complain to them that they trashed their house the night before and inform them that they are lousy boyfriends. Chester (Scott) and Jesse (Kutcher) realize that they have anniversary gifts for the girls in Jesse’s car and decide to hurry over to their house to give them to the girls. They leave the house only to discover that the car is no where in sight and they have no idea where it might be. This leads them on a day long adventure where they encounter burn out beating jocks, hot chicks from another planet (really just one BIG hot chick), a marijuana smoking dog, a band of UFO cultists, a reclusive ostrich farmer, a Chinese tailor and a transgender stripper just to name a few. The hot chicks, UFO cultists along with two “Norwegians” are all in search of the “continuum transfunctioner” and believe that Chester and Jesse were the last to have had contact with it. You will have to watch the film to see what it is and why it is important, sorry.

That is the film’s premise and as you can imagine it takes these boobs in a number of directions. I don’t want to say that Dude where’s my car didn’t have a few charming moments but it just took the stupid factor to another level. For instance they pull up to a Chinese food drive through and place an order. There is a rather obnoxious voice on the other side of the speaker box that says “AND THEN”? after every item ordered. The problem is that even when they are finished ordering it keeps saying “AND THEN”? This goes back and forth for way too long and gets to the point where it becomes monotonous. The word “Dude” is easily used a zillion times (at least it felt that way). Wanda and Wilma played by Jennifer Garner and Marla Sokoloff are simply way too hot to be dating these guys. Honestly though I think that this is the type of film that you either find ridiculous or entertaining in an odd sort of way. For me it registered more on the ridiculous level. What pretty much summed it up for me was the scene where Jesse and Chester pull up to a traffic light along side Fabio and a hot female passenger. Fabio revs his engine, they rev theirs. Fabio leans over and gives his passenger a long passionate kiss on the lips. Yep, you guessed it Jesse leans over and locks lips with Chester which included some tongue action. So there you have it….

Parental Guide:

The rating is for language, some sex and drug related humor. Not for younger viewers.

Final Thoughts:

Dude where’s my car is a comedy that most likely appeals to a select audience. I found its repetitive commentary and played out humor to be less than entertaining. Fox has brought it to high definition Blu-ray disc featuring good quality audio/video which fans are sure to appreciate.

I can't even remember this movie. It has been so long, but if I recall it was extremely dumb. If I recall correctly, this movie also had a ton of hype. Maybe I will give it another watch.

The movie itself is watchable but from the sound of the review the BD seems somewhat lackluster.

I have to agree this movie isn't too good at all, well unless you're 10.

I remember this movie. I tolerated it. I wasn't very entertained at all.

What's with Fox and these low-bitrate MPEG2 transfers lately?

this is one of those movies that is tolerable if you are doing something else and it's running in the background it has it's moments but for the most part is a lackluster

Greetings,

For a catalog title release (of a film like this) it doesn't look or sound bad at all. In my opinion it looks better than the newly released What happens in Vegas.

"Look! A Unicorn!"

"WHAT!?" *Looks*

"Sorry... I guess it was just a regular horse. Wierd..."

:p

I'm in the minority, I'm sure, but I was able to enjoy the pure absurdity and stupidity of the piece...:)

Thanks for the review! Sorry, if it hurt...

I suspect this is a release than Fox had intentions to release earlier on and didn't for whatever reason thus the mpeg2 encode.

Yeah, I think this movie is pretty funny, but it's best if you have funny friends to watch it with. You can't really be all serious by yourself in your basement to really enjoy it.

Too bad no AVC or VC-1 but apparently it looks pretty good anyway so not too bad.

I got this movie in the mail from Blockbuster yesterday. I will check it out this weekend, but again, reading Ralph's review I am not too excited about this Blu-ray release. :(
