Since this is regarding the Sony VRD-MC5 DVD recorder I posted here, there isnt much info on this...

Question is, can non-Sony AVCHD (H.264) camcorders record to this device via the memory stick interface? So if I place H.264 file on memory stick and place in one of the slots will it record that video or is video strictly by Sony camcorders via their usb interface?

This is an old thread but I thought I'd respond with my experience. I have a Panasonic HDC-SD9 AVCHD camcorder. The Sony VRD-MC5 DVD recorder will not read the AVCHD video on the SD card. Reading video from the SD card would be nice, but it's not a huge disappointment. The main issue is the USB interface on the Sony VRD-MC5 does not work with the Panasonic HDC-SD9. The VRD-MC5 says the camcorder is not compatible. I really like the HDC-SD9 but still have no way to burn AVCHD to DVD except through a PC.

I wish Sony, Canon, or Panasonic would build an AVCHD camcorder with IEEE 1394 firewire. That would solve many problems.

If someone has gotten a non-Sony camcorder to work with the USB interface on the VRD-MC5, please speak up.
