I will move to Europe very soon and I need to buy an PAL to NTSC converter.

From what I read it is obvious that DVDO iScan VP50pro is the best one in the market.

The thing is that I cannot afford it for sure.

I was wondering whether Atlona's AT-HD560 would suffice? There is a huge price difference. The link is below:

http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-Pal-HDMI-to-NTSC-HDMI-Converter-1080p-p-17375.html

BTW, I will only use this device for connecting my HD box via HDMI cable to the HDMI input of Atlona, and then I will connect Atlona via HDMI output to the TV. Since HDMI also takes care of audio, I would not need to do anything else.

So as you see I would like to use this device only for displaying European HD video content on my US HDTV.

Anyhow, please just tell me whether the performance if Atlona will be (extremely) crappy or not when compared with DVDO.

Thanks,

PS. If I considered using the converter for other purposes and thus require ports other than HDMI such as S-video or DVI or component, I would ask you to compare DVDO with Atlona AT-LINE-PRO2, the link of which is: http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-Video-Scaler-with-HDMI-output-p-17380.html . Am I right? Do you find my logic correct?

No one has answer?

Guys this is an urgent situation for me, because I will relocate to Europe very soon and need to buy a PAL to NTSC converter

I will appreciate if you can comment on whatever knowledge you have regarding these two devices.

I have the VP50 and have used it as a PAL to NTSC converter as my display would only accept 60Hz at its native res.

I don't think the conversion is anything but ordinary and was no better than the conversion that my Samsung 460Px did. I looked around for a long time on the web, but could not find anything else except broadcast frame rate converters. And, these only worked on the standard video resolutions too - not the 1366 x 768 I was hoping to convert. Besides these units cost around the $20K!!

My advise - get a display that will do 50 and 60Hz natively (and 24Hz as well if you have the choise. That's what I did in the end and have been very happy ever since. Theres' just no way that I could tolerate the frame judder assocciated with the conversion.
