I am new to the world of HD. I purchased a Sony KDF50WE655 4 years ago but never could get OTA signal so we have never utilized the HD capability of the equipment. Now that there are more HD channels to view that makes the extra $10 a month worth it, I am ready to add HD.

We are 8 year subscribers to Direct TV and TiVo. I don’t want to give up TiVo features but DTV does not support HD TiVo. I would appreciate any feedback/recommendations from experienced HD users.

1.What HD DVR’s that will provide close to TiVo features?
2.Is it necessary to have additional hard drive capacity if we generally watch recorded media within a week or so?
3.Is ATT U-vers worth consideration if I live nearly 3000 feet from the VRAD?

1) If you have Directv, their HR20, HR21 or HR22 are your only choices. The feature set is the same between them for the most part. You can find more detail on them in the Recorders section or the Directv HD DVR section at dbstalk.com.
2) Depends on how much you record weekly and how much of it is HD. I record a mix of SD and HD weekly, about 20 shows and I can keep multiple weeks worth on my HR20. If you do need to add space, you can attach an external eSata drive to these models pretty easily though it overrides the internal disk completey, you don't get the combined space.
3) Can't comment, never used U-Verse.
