View Full Version : Have external VP, don't need the V in AVR...which receiver should I buy?

I have an external video processor and, as such, don't care about the video processing capabilities of a receiver. What I'm looking for in a new AVR is low cost, the convenience of all HDMI connections, and the ability to decode all present day surround audio formats. Support for SACD over HDMI would be nice, but not an absolute requirement if there are multichannel analog inputs available.

A couple of examples I've found thus far that come close to this 'ideal' are the Sony STR-DG820 (no SACD support) and the Sony STR-DG920 (SACD support via analog input only).

This forum is the best place to post this question IMHO because there must be many other folks with a similar objective: 'future-proof' audio capability with the convenience of HDMI, but without paying for unnecessary video capability in a receiver.

Suggestions?

Move it to the AVR section, thisis NOT the place for this.

IMO most people doesn't dump their old receiver, rather move it to another room - bedroom, kids' room etc - so having at least some decent entry-level scaler in your AVR could turn out to be very useful later.

"The Raw Nerve"...ain't that the truth. CAPS unnecessary...chillax, dude.

I appreciate your not humble opinion, but I believe there are plenty of folks out there that don't have kids and/or don't have AV systems in multiple rooms. Speaking just for myself, I does dump (OK, sell) my old receiver every 18 months or so.
