I live in Las Vegas and I'm building a cabin outside Cedar City, UT. I plan on just taking a receiver with me as I go back and forth since I don't want to pay D* twice for the same channels. I know up there they get the Salt Lake local channels. Does anyone know if the Salt Lake locals reach Las Vegas or if the Vegas locals reach about 30 miles East of Cedar City. If not I wonder if there is a way to get both.

I don't believe you can get both, lvt. The locals are pretty much confined to their own areas, with a little overlap, but not, I don't believe, enough to help you in this case.

This is kinda old, but it's a D* spotbeam map:

AFAIK, there's no way to get both. Even if the spotbeams overlapped, your receiver would have to be authorized for SLC locals to receive those, i.e., you would have to have a D* service address in the SLC area. The only thing you can hope for is to get lucky and pick up the Vegas spotbeam, but judging by the map that looks doubtful.

You can call D* when you go to the cabin and they will move the service there for you on any boxes that you bring with. That way the receiver will be authorized to receive the Las Vegas locals while in NV and get the Salt Lake locals while in UT. There shouldn't be a charge for this.
