I have a 60" plasma TV and it works great with HD, but falls apart with SD....especially SD from my TV cable box (I'm using Svideo). The picture is terrible! I was told that a video processor/scaler would improve it.

Will the isyncHd scaler (model KD-VPHD2) improve the picture somewhat?

Well, I have my answer....

I went and bought one of these things, and all I can say is....

Video Processors.........What a COMPLETE and total WASTE of money.

Not only does it do little to improve the picture, but there isn't much that it can do beyond the combination of the picture controls on my TV and the switching abilities of my Onkyo 805 AVR. Oh yes.... it can move the picture around a bit on the screen.... big deal.

But this machine in particular is almost like it was built in some one's garage from a kit on a Saturday afternoon. There is no on screen display and tiny LCD screen is unreadable from about 8 feet and beyond. The key repeat rate is stupidly slow (about one second) and it doesn't really repeat anyway so if you want to move the picture all the way to the left (which is about 40 clicks on the remote) you have to push, let go, push, let go, push, let go...... 40 times at MORE than one second intervals.

The IR receiver on the machine has an incredibly narrow spread to it so you almost have to be standing dead in front of it for the remote to work. This makes it hard to use the harmony remote when your equipment is not all bunched close together.

I can go on... but in short.... I have been disappointed in product purchases before, but this takes the cake. You're much better off sinking your money into a good AVR with switch/upscaling ability..... like the onkyo.

Quite interesting....

I opened this thing up to see what I could do in improving the absolute PITIFUL ir spread on this thing and I find that all of the part numbers on the major chips have been scraped off.

What a hunk of junk. Key digital is nothing but a joke.

Key Digital uses a lot of marketing BS to hype up very basic and simple technologies. For example they tout Surface Mount Technology as if it's something they exclusivily use. Well folks, just about everything electronic made today is Surface Mount technology.

Also all the trademarked features of their scalers are nothing more than renamed features of the scaler chip they use. They aren't developing scaling algorithms in their "labs" as they want you to think. Any developement is limited to the application and implementation of the feature set provided by the chip they use.

Personally I tried one of their matrix switchers once instead of my usual Extron choice. Big mistake. The quality isn't even close.

Out of curiosity, what scaler chip do they use?
(I used to have an HD Leeza.)
