I am looking for a dedicated SD-DVD player.
I wanbt one that can send 480i unaltered to my PDP and let the PDP do the work.
I would prefer one with very good audio capabilities as well.

Oppo 980 for $169.

I'm considering the same thing. I noticed someone claimed the Panasonic S54 does 480i over HDMI too. Has anyone used that player? Panasonic is normally a good brand from my experience, and that player is considerably cheaper.

moxie1617....thanks!
Which, in your opinion, players are the best under $200?

I don't see any support for SACD or DVD-A on the Panny, so if you want that audio support your best bet is the Oppo 980.

I don't need that, I have a dedicated CD player already.
This would be dedicated SD movies only.
So which player then, in your opinion?
Thanks!

I have two Oppo players(970 and 983) and a Panny DVD recorder(ES-10). I am really biased towards the Oppos. My Panny recorder only outputs 480i and 480p but it seems to have a red push that was really difficult to eliminate. I can't speak for the Panasonic players but I would have to recommend the Oppo 980. Hopefully you will get a Panny S54 owner to contribute.

I just picked up a 980H to pair with my VP30/ABT102. It is awesome. It makes reference DVD's look near HD, and not so great DVD's much more tolerable. My suggestion is to save the time and effort, just buy the OPPO, you will be very happy.
