My question is 2 parts:
With HD DVD dead, is my only option using 3rd party software to rip the content or will MC also work on HD DVD?
Where do we stand with MC on Blu Ray? It's been in the spec phase for ages. No updates or anything. I get that sick feeling that the hope in to use the out of sight, out of mind approach and do away with it completely.
To answer your thread title question: most likely.
HD DVD is dead, no developments there, download a trial version of AnyDVD and rip the damn thing. Do anything you want with it afterwards.
BD thinks they do have it implemented. At least some studios. At least on some disks. At least in PSP format.
Hoping to get a full resolution copy? Better look around for a unicorn...:)

You will never see managed copy.

The best you are ever going to get legally are the free digital Ipod versions some studios have been adding so far. I think the studios believe there are just too few users who would really benefit from legal uses of managed copy and too many who would exploit it illegally. Check back in another decade...

Where do we stand with MC on Blu Ray? It's been in the spec phase for ages.Note that managed copy relates to the AACS specs and despite some speculation posted back in the first half of 2005 it was confirmed for Blu-ray in November 2005 (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20051117-5592.html). As such it has not been a "Blu-ray issue" or a "HD DVD issue" for over 2.5 years and has only been an AACS issue. Just wanted to make that point clear. Now in terms of what is happening with managed copy the AACS is still working on it (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=13848363&postcount=26) but that comment was made back when you last made a thread about it (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1028284). Personally speaking after over 2 years of hearing about how managed copy is still being worked on I have gotten just a tad skeptical about whether it will be released.
