Hi
I have a Pioneer DVR 450H-S and it plays dvds ok but when I hook up my satellite receiver to the inputs on the DVR it either has poor quality video or no video. I have tried used component , Svideo and RCA ports. I have used different cables still no luck. Anyone with any suggestions it would be appreciated

Try hooking up a different video source, such as another DVD player, or VCR to the same inputs of your Pio 450, or alternatively to the other inputs (L1, L2, L3). If you experience the same problem, it's likely your Pioneer or the cables; if the video looks ok with the other sources, then it's likely the satellite feed.

I don't believe your Pio has component inputs, only component outputs.

Are you sure you are using the right inputs? If your 450 has more than one set of line inputs, as does my 640, try a different set of inputs, and select that set on the input selector, and see if it is any better.

Thanks for the reply
Your are right there is no component in but i have tried everything. I have tried new cables including the Svideo and Rca. I have tried all inputs. I had the video very dark and blurry on the Tv but dvd worked good, turned off changed some wires around now there is no audio or video. Now I can get anything to work moved wires around back to were is had adio and still nothing. (even dvd)
The satellite receiver has only 2 out puts that work good directly to tv

I am not sure if i got a dud

You should use a logical approach to isolate the problem. As mentioned, try another video source first (DVD player, VCR...) to see if you are dealing with a faulty satellite feed, or a faulty DVD recorder.

Use only the composite connections at this time: The cable from the yellow OUT terminal of the video source goes to the Pioneer's yellow LINE INPUT (L1, L2, or L3).

The 2 AUDIO cables (red & black, or red & white) connect the same way, however for the purpose of isolating the video problem, you don't really have to hook them up at this point.

Go from the yellow OUT terminal of the Pioneer to the yellow IN terminal of your TV. Don't use any component or S-Video terminals at this time.

If your video looks ok so far with a different video source, then the problem is with the satellite feed if it was hooked up in an identical fashion.
If you still have bad, or no video, then there is a problem with the Pioneer.

On some DVD players/recorders you have to set the composite / S-Video / component choice in the menu, but not in the Pioneer 450, because as soon as you plug in a S-Video cable, the composite terminal is disconnected.

If at this point your video looks ok, then you can proceed to use the S-Video or component terminals, if that is your choice. If the basic yellow IN / OUT composite wiring does not work, then your Pioneer needs likely to be serviced or replaced, depending on the warranty status.
