You'll have to convert them to a supported format like mp3.

Since the Oppo 983 does not support FLAC your choice is to convert your files or not play them.

Why did you think FLAC was supported? Do you see it anywhere in the player specification?

...or better yet, use Nero to burn them directly and losslessly to CD-R.

Just say "No!" to lossless formats!

I think that's called an audio cd.........? Since flac-like ape-is a lossless compression scheme-when one decompresses it you have wave-audio cd.

The best solution is convert the FLAC files to MLP format using software like DigiOnAudio2 and then burning the resulting files to DVD-R. You'll be able to store approximately 170 files on a DVD-R, giving you about 10 hours of uninterrupted, lossless music from a single 50 cent disc! The downside is that the Oppo will likely be the only player capable of playing MLP files.

Unfortunately you'll need to convert the files to WAV format first, as DigiOnAudio2 does not handle FLAC files.

Another option is to use AudioDVDCreator which will convert WAV/FLAC files into a lossless "video" DVD with a capacity of approximately 100 files, or 6.5 hours of music. You can play these discs on virtually any DVD player. You may also create your own custom menus and song titles with this software.

Have fun!

Speaking of lossless, which file type would be best for sound quality on a external hard drive connected to the Oppo?
