Hello Gents,
I welcome all feedback on this problem:
I just purchased a optoma HD640 projector (HD65 USA version).
I want to connect my 360 via HD (HDMI or Component, just want a HD signal)
On the back of my projector it has a HDMI and a component... so my picture is great.
How do I get the Audio?
Hopefully someone can help

Connect the audio to a receiver.

you'll run the video to the projector, and optical (toslink) to your receiver.
if you're using HDMI, you'll have to get the audio dongle, or look for one of the workarounds to get optical out... or you could just use the VGA cable and be done with it.

Or if the receiver has HDMI input/output capability, then I'd suggest that it's better to connect the 360 to the receiver via HDMI and then the receiver to the projector by another HDMI cable. Doing it the other way, usually results in stereo audio only, as few if any projectors or TVs will pass 5.1 or more, digital audio via optical or spdif coax from an HDMI source. Connecting the 360 directly to the receiver allows the receiver to see digital audio in 5.1 and still pass the digital video on to the projector.

Once I plug in the VGA cable in the back of the xbox it blocks the HDMI port...anything that plugs directly in the back of my xbox has a length limitation except for the HDMI.
My xbox has to be 16ft from the projector. I think I'm stuck buying a new HDMI receiver...I need to get a second job.

So you're receiver is not an HDMI variant, not a problem...
You can pick up the audio adapter by MS which will let you pass optical audio through it while still having the HDMI plugged in. It comes standard in the elite and sold separately with a 6.5' hdmi cable for $50... It will allow you to output 5.1 via optical or 2 channel via composite.

VGA or Component extension cables can be had fairly cheaply. Check monoprice.com . Otherwise you could hack the connector housing on the VGA or component cable, to allow it to coexist with the HDMI cable. Probably you should also cut the jumper internally, to eliminate the dreaded HDMI switching induced reboot issue, if you hack the connector housing.
