I have always wondered why nobody makes Flat Panel Display that is just a display. I have not used the tuner or speakers on my last 2 "TV's", which I have used for about 5 years each. I am sure there is a vast number of households that are in the same boat. With the advances in "Home Theater" receivers, sat receivers, cable boxes, DVD/BR, speakers and tuners are a waste of money in a display device. Heck I'd love a FPD with just a power cord and 1 HDMI input on it. I plan to put a front projector in eventually, but that will take some construction time(as well as wife convincing).
Anyone agree with me?

Panasonic offers monitors branded as their professional series...currently the "10UK" models. Pioneer offers a similar product. They do not have tuners or speakers and you can customize the inputs to your liking. This is at least the fourth generation of their monitors. Most of the units that you see in buildings, airports, etc are these or similar units. Your dream is available.

I have a Panasonic professional series monitor and it is indeed just that, a monitor. The good news is they are usually cheaper than their consumer model conterparts. Fantastic picture, go buy one now!
The bad news is mine did not come with a HDMI connection out of the box, had to purchase an HDMI slot seperately for about $150 :(

The bad news is mine did not come with a HDMI connection out of the box, had to purchase an HDMI slot seperately for about $150 :(That's not the case anymore - the Panasonic Pro models are a little more than their consumer model counterparts nowadays, but they all now come with 2 HDMI inputs standard. And the new PH11UK and PF11UK models now have the stretch modes available on "HD" signals unlike all the previous generations.
And i think Panasonic still makes some smaller LCD pro monitors too.
Sony also still makes Pro model plasma monitors using a Samsung plasma panel (even though they bailed out of the consumer market).
And don't forget NEC - they make some fantastic Pro monitors with better processing than just about any other brand.
Pioneer still makes Pro monitors too.

Randy is correct - and Hitachi and HP both make pro series displays as well. The HP pro series LCD displays are very good.
From all of these manufacturers the pro series are variations on the consumer models - no better video quality, frequently fewer features, and with a different set of options. Yet I know people who chose the Panasonic pro series plasma because the thin bezel allowed a 50" or larger screen in a space that would only have held the next size smaller consumer display.
Sharp also makes a "Professional" series of monitors, no tuners I believe. However all of the types I have seen from Sharp are of a higher grade of panel and electronics than they sell at the BB or CC nearby.
Typically the cost of these from Sharp can run up to 3 times what a similar size standard TV would. Also it is like you have to know someone to get one, you need to find a professional installer that can deal direct with Sharp to buy.
Like you and probably half of the people here, the tuner in my sets go unused. The DVR has about the same quality tuner in it, and it has a channel guide feature in it while the set doesn't.
