I realize this question is a loaded one but thought that the VP forum would be a good place to ask it. Weither to buy a VP or upgrade to a new receiver.
I am looking for a christmas gift (from my wife) this year and have narrowed it down to either a VP or a new receiver.
I currently have a Ruby project and an old RXV-1600 yamaha receiver which only passes 5.1 PCM via HDMI. I use my project to watch Blu-ray (via PS3) 80% of time and cable (Verizon FIOS) 15% of time.
My current receiver faults are no 7.1 pcm, which I am setup for, and will not passthrough 1080p. If I were to buy a VP (eye on the EDGE) would I see any noticalbe increase in picture quality given my setup (would be able to pass 1080p directly to projector, but still have 5.1 sound)? Or should I forget about a VP and set a receiver with 7.1 pcm (Yamaha possibly the RXV-1800 or 3800) that can pass 1080p.
What are your thoughts?
