View Full Version : XBOX360 won't start with HDMI?

Hi. I recently installed an Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 720 projector (720p resolution). I am running an HDMI cable from an Onkyo 705 receiver to the projector for all of the video out. However, when I try to connect my XBOX360 to the receiver via HDMI, the XBOX doesn't start (no sound, all four green connector lights on the controller just blink) and no video is displayed. It works fine if I connect to the receiver over component with optical audio.

Any thoughts? Is there something I can do to reset the XBOX without losing everything that's on it so it'll display over the HDMI cable at 720p? I am not using the MS HDMI cable, but I'm using the same no-name brand cable that I used to connect the receiver to the projector.

I have not yet tried to connect the XBOX directly to the projector yet (maybe tonight).

Anyone have any thoughts on this??

Thanks!

DH

Something is wrong with the HDMI handshake. That's what mine will do if the HDMI switcher is on the wrong input.

Since getting my RROD Elite back this week, I have found that unless my display is powered on, and tuned the correct HDMI Input, the 360 will not start the "power on screen", with the sphere at the very beginning.

This was not the case before, as I could turn my 360 on, and take my time while switching Inputs on my display from "TV" to "Game."

Make sure that your projector is powered on, and you are viewing the input that you have the Xbox connected to... If your projecter prohibits you from selecting that Input until there is a signal, turn your Xbox On, wait a few seconds, then try switching your projector to the input that the Xbox is plugged into. The handshaking never used to be this touchy, but its not a big deal once you get used to how you need to power on your equipment.

Also, what projector are you using?

^I agree. That's what mine did when I would turn on the xbox/receiever without turning on the TV/Source device

I run my 360 through my onkyo 605, and I have to have everything (AVR, TV) on and set to the correct inputs for the 360 to handshake correctly and turn on completely.

... And don't try to switch inputs on your TV before you're done using the Xbox 360 either, as this can trigger a reset. Really, it's significantly less of a hassle to use the "dumb" component video output which doesn't do this whole sensing/handshaking nonsense.

I've never had a problem shutting down my TV and AVR with the 360 running, then firing it up again a few hours later. Not saying it wont happen to someone, somehwere, but I haven't seen this behavior.

Just like others here, I have to have the TV and AVR on before the XBOX will actually start to boot. But, once mine is running, it doesn't drop when one of these components is turned off.

Ditto. I turn on my AVR (Onkyo 805) first, then TV, then 360. If either the AVR or the TV is off, of the AVR isn't set to the correct input for the 360, the 360 won't boot.

Yep. Seems like the order made a difference. I'm not sure what order I was using before, but projector then receiver then XBOX and it looks like it works. Whew - I was starting to worry about which component device I was going to have to abandon.

Thanks to all for your help!! As usual, AVS comes through!

I don't think order matters. At least not for me. I can turn on my devices in any order I want. The 360 just wont boot up until all are turned on.
