Surprisingly I haven't seen this posted... I'm looking a Canon HF100 and need a few large SDHC cards. Durning a week vacation I usually ends up recording around 2hrs but have shot up to 4hrs on more exciting trips.

So get a couple of 16GB or a hand full of 8GB? Any reason to worry about our entire vacation being stored on one little SD card?

I usually stick with Sandisk because they just a few dollars more, but in 16GB they're hard to find and REALLY expensive. Patriot, PNY and A-Data are all around $65, half what Sandisk is.... is it worth saving the money? I'd gladly pay more for a more reliable brand, but I don't need designer SD cards either ;)

I have a 16gb Patroit 6 class thats been working great so far for the past 2 months. I'm looking to get a 32gb SDHC as soon as the price dips a little bit more.

I have 1 16GB Patriot Class 6 SDHC that I have used for 1 week without any issues. I liked it (especially the price $35AR), that I purchased another one from another etailer ($38AR).

I will probably invest in a PSD device (Hyperdrive or Nexto) to dump the 2 SDHC cards for reuse (during a long vacation). This is will save the hassle of carrying my laptop and an external HDD.

I use a Transcend 16gb. I've used it since May or so (light use). It works great, I've had no problems, and it was a great price from Amazon.

How much video data can a 16 gb SDHC hold?

Another consideration, is it better to use two 8s rather than one 16? Two thoughts: 1) is it is a bad idea to trust one single card for your entire vacation video? and 2) a dual layer DVD stores 8GB of data so you can easily archive a 8GB card w/o splitting the content.

How much video data can a 16 gb SDHC hold?At 17Mbps ~2hrs. Its based on the bitrate.

All flash memory can fail, even the most expensive one. Most likely it won't, but if you don't want to take chances losing all the precious video, having a back up solution is your best bet. One option is to use an OTG (On the Go) hard drive back up. Back up the flash card every night, and at most you would only lose one day of video. And it offers the comfort of knowing that even if the camcorder got stolen or lost, your video would be safe.

I have the Nexto Extreme (and install the hard drive myself), which I found to be very good and not ultra expensive. It has hardware verfication, and it serves as backup for all my flash memory electronic gadgets/device.

I get just over 2 hours of footage on the highest settings on my HF-100.

1) Does Nexto Extreme 2700 live up to its spec of 80GB backup (approx. 5 16GB SDHC cards) on 1 charge?
2) Also, can the user replace the rechargeable battery easily? Since I did not see a replacement internal battery available at nextodi.com

From my recent experience during a recent trip, I would say yes - at least in the same ball park.

It charges from the mini-USB as well. So it can use the same mini-USB charger for my phone and I don't need to carry a separate charger for my trip.

According to NextoDI support, you need to remove 8 screws to access the internal battery. And there is a small external battery option which is easy to replace.

I got a PQI 16GB from fry's online for 39.99, class 6. Works great on my hf100 at 17mbps.
