I didn't really know where to post this and i hope i am in the right section if not well (mods feel free to move it, to the right place)
I'm looking to buy a brand new TV for around 4,000$ (I was looking for an ACL, Sharp Aquos 65" model: LC65D64U)
But recently i've heard about the various image banding issues of the sharp and that got me worried, i don't want to invest 4,000$ to watch my hockey/football games to see some banding problems :(
I don't mind about going plasma either, my only request are that the tv gotta be at least 52" or bigger and full hd.
So what would be best for my money ?
I need the personal opinion of some of the members here who actually own all different types of tvs.
Thanks for looking at my thread.

Thanks for looking at my thread.I own a panasonic PZ700U, a Pioneer Elite 151, a Pioneer 5010, and an XBR3 (older, I know) among other MUCH lesser displays. I would strongly suggest a 6020 (9G Pioneer kuro). I would also suggest the 58PZ800U (panasonic), and the 63" (I think that size is right) Samsung PNA550 or A650. The 6020 has the most depth, the highest contrast, and the best blacks. The PZ800U has an accurate preset (in THX mode), but based on results of a FP shootout, I would suggest the Samsung (more accurate colors, less blacks than both the panny and pio, but a good pop. At the shootout the panny seemed washed out) over the Panasonic. The Samsung over the Pioneer would be dependent of your like of black levels (pioneer) or color accuracy (samsung). Only you can go and see :D

Pio 6020 (amazon has it in your price range)
or
Samsung 63A650
Take the Samsung if you plan to get a Pro-Calibration done, else I'd just get the Pio.

Well I went from a 57" diagonal "TV" to a 119" diagonal front projection system over 3 years ago. In the past 3 years I have yet to find 1 person who hasn't seen my new "TV" and wished they didn't have one.
For $4000 you can absolutely do a front projection system and be satisfied.

The 65" Sharp is a reasonable selection. What "banding" there might be will not be visible with your hockey or sports (unless your tastes tend towards something like deep-sea shrimp diving). Whatever hockey motion artifacts there might be versus plasma may be offset by the brilliant bright white ice that plasmas just can't quite get. You should try and view a hockey game on them before you decide.
This is an enthusiast forum, which means people here judge displays by how good their film-noir BluRay discs look in a pitchblack cave. Not everyone shares (or is allowed) that environment or programming taste.
I saw a Sharp alongside a 73" LG plasma. With the Backlight cranked down the Sharp compared favorably.
I'd say it's the Sharp or the 63" Samsung. Smaller is worser. If you have to pinch pennies, there's a 60-inch LG that's not bad either.
