I'm looking to purchase a TV in the 37 to 42 inch range for my grandmother. So far, the Panasonic TH-42PX80U looks like the winner at $849 from a local retailer. Price is a concern but I want something decent for the money. Any other suggestions on models?

Extra info: 1080p isn't necessary (ie not gonna pay extra for it in this size TV.) Viewing distance is going to be about 10 feet. It's replacing an old cabinet TV so it will already be a huge upgrade, which means I'm not really looking to go bigger than 42 (plus size is an issue, as it needs to fit into a specific corner.) Also, this won't be wall mounted, so rear projection might work (but I can't find any rear projection less than ~60" anyways.) Primary (only?) source will be cable. And probably analog at that. The purchase will need to be made brick and mortar -- this new-fangled internet thing scares her. *sigh*

So, with all that said, any ideas?

Best to get her something as maintenance-free as possible, I would think.

The Panny you mentioned sounds like a fine choice. She'll probably pick up the HD locals with it's QAM tuner from the analog cable, so I'm sure she'll like that.

 If the whole new fangled internet thing scares her, what's she gonna think when she's watching Judge Judy in a little box on her new fangled 16:9 widescreen???;);)

Why not the 37" Vizio LCD @ WallyWorld??? Not overwhelming in size, SD still decent because not overblown size. Mentioning WM to her may seem "practical" and a place she may be familiar with???
And don't think about wall mounting...
:)

More than decent...but of course, that's all subjective

Well, she went with the Panasonic TH-42PX80U. This local retailer had 30 month 0% interest financing and she has a lot of loyalty with them. Plus it gets delivered tomorrow --hopefully all goes well.
