Both

PS3 for Blu-Ray, streaming content and gaming.
Oppo 983 for SD DVD, SACD, DVD-Audio, Region Free, silence and quick loading.

DivX for both.

That's the set up I have, best of both worlds.

Cheers

Both if you can afford it: OPPO for the upconversion and PS3 for blu-ray.

If you can only have one, get the PS3. It has good upconversion (though not as good as the OPPO), plays blu-ray and yes, games too.

I have both, actually 2-60GB PS3's and an Oppo DV983H.

They compliment and work great with each other nicely, as already stated in an earlier post.

The Oppo 983 is very well built (all metal this time including faceplate), and plays SACDs with all artist information shown on screen. Also, it correctly plays HDCDs as well as DTS-CDs, so no sample rate conversion changes are necessary if otherwise playing them in the PS3. It runs silent and is much more efficient than the PS3. However, the PS3 is a super versatile multimedia player and has Blu-ray and plays high def games and online movies.

Also, the picture and sound quality of this Oppo (the DV983H) is top notch and you will want to rediscover your vast DVD collection through it (that is, if you have a vast DVD collection as I have). :D

Two thumb way up for this combo!

I have both.

I need the PS3 for Blu-ray. The Oppo is flawless from a SD DVD picture performance standpoint, and I need it for my SACDs and DVD-As.
