I’m currently building a new house and have an area set aside in the basement to be my theatre and gaming room. The available space will be 22’6” x 13’ when it is finished.

Here is a picture of my plan for the room.

-I already have the projector, it is an Optoma hd65
-I’m planning to build a fixed 8’ wide screen (110” diagonal).
- Main furniture will be black leather reclining sofa and loveseat.
- The exact size of the “gear rack” hasn’t been determined yet, but it will hold my receiver, cable box, ps3, 360, and wii, I intend for it to be long and low with a small (37”) plasma to be wall mounted above it later.
- I think Flooring is going to be a nice cushion floor with lots of rugs (we aren’t putting carpet anywhere in tis house)
- I’m debating a drop ceiling, it would make future wiring changes easier, but I think a drywall ceiling would look better.
- Paint will be a nice deep colour, not sure exactly what yet. I’m also thinking of using matte black on a portion of the ceiling and walls as shown here.

Anyone done something like this? Is it worth it? Will it look stupid? (I think it might look kinda cool)

That’s pretty much the extent of my plan so far, comments/criticisms/suggestions would be appreciated.

Looks like it will be cool.

Drop ceilings are nice for wiring and future wiring, but they can rattle depending on how much bass there is.

They do have a nice acoustic dampening effect in some circumstances too.

What is the thing on the top wall to the right of the desk?

It's a MAME cabinet. So far it's only a control panel that sits on my desk, but I've always intendend to build it into a full upright cabinet.
