Maybe I'm missing something, but if I am wanting to record something onto my DVDR3576 from my DirecTV DVR, is the best quality connection I can use composite or S-Video? There is no way to connect the DVDR3576 to the DVR via component or HDMI? Because it seems like such a shame to have a high-quality recording and then put it onto the Philips box and lose half of it.

Or would it be better to directly record to DVD...?

Doesn't matter what you record to - DVD or hard drive - the Philips can only record in 480i.

And yes, s-video is the best input on there. No DVD recorders have component or HDMI inputs these days (there were a few that had component input a few years back, but they still could only record in 480i through them).
