If you can find Phifer Sheerweave 4500 material which is used for sun shades you can make your own screen with this material. Perhaps you can buy the material from Seymourav.com and it wouldn't be considered screen fabric but sun shade fabric? Not sure if it will be any cheaper that way.

Picture quality on the SW4500 is great. it really is. its strange to think that a material for sun shading can also be used as a screen fabric - with brilliant results, but how many inventions has this world come across that are today used for something completely different to what they were designed for.

If you want to see screen shots head to Seymour AV - chris is more than happy to show you some that he's had from satisfied clients.

As to the duties and taxes for shipping - speak to a specialist cargo / shipping company that deals with things like this - there are a few ways to legally avoid paying such high duties and things. if it is cheaper to import the raw material as is have them state what its actually designed for - sun shading, and you may well get a better price. Each country differs though so i dont know exactly how that would work in Thailand.

What about clubbing together with a couple of other HT enthusiasts there and doing a bulk purchase where you split the shipping and duties costs? again, i'm sure Chris at Seymour can help you here.

Best of luck.

Easy as that!

i think what a lot of guys on this forum, especially the more DIY orientated, have found is that the name brand manufacturers have, over a very long period of time, built up a good reputation for service and aftercare and the likes (this is what you pay more for), all for selling a very basic PVC type material. sure some of the add glass beading or special addititives to the material to make it outstanding, but there are many out there that are just plainly and simply dirt-cheap fabric with a name on.

This is also one of the reasons i think Sandman started his company SMX, and why its been so successful - its a simple product, good quality and highly rated, without the exorbitant price tags of some...

Now frames are a complete different story, and i wont go into them at this point!

well done with the material - enjoy it!

After a couple attempts, I've discovered that a couple of coats of the right paint can really improve that stock BOC.

Yes it is AT, you want to get the phifer sheerweave 4500 in chalk white or a sheerweave material with a 5% openess in case it goes under a different name.

Here's a link to a thread about an online source.

There's also another thread which discusses the fabric in the DIY screen section.
