do HDMI connections make for a better pic than using RGB connections ? my fios box has outputs for both , i currently use RGB to the tv (panny 50 inch plasma) and a optical cable for sound to my pioneer reciever . would a HDMI cable improve the pannys pic ?

also...... since HDMI sends a digital signal to the tv and since a digital signal is just 1's and 0's (or on and off) are some HDMI cables better at sending 1's and 0's better than others ? i understand some being built more durable than others and having more cosmetic appeal , but isnt a 1 a 1 and a 0 a 0 ?

You might try an HDMI cable, but a cheap one from one of the above sponsors (Monoprice, BJC, Tartan.) Definitely don't drop $70 for a Monster brand, especially if you're just trying it out.

You're right in that 1s and 0s are 1s and 0s, and if a cable can't transmit them all, you'll see and hear the problem. I've used cheap HDMI cables from Monoprice and never had an issue.

I've noticed a SLIGHT improvement on HD channels using HDMI, but I like component better for SD. I can hook up both on my cable box.

well i got a hdmi cable to go between my fios hd-dvr box and my TH50PX80U and there is a difference ! its not night and day but there is definately more fine detail and texture when watching HD channels . in the beginning of fantastic 4 silver surfer when the planet is beginning to break up theres more detail in the smoke/debris that billows up befor it explodes . the scene with the spinx and pyramids definately has more texture with HDMI and bens orange rocky skin had more depth and detail . the movie on a whole just looked crisper . i would never had thought a 30 buck cable (i got it used for 10 bucks) could make so much difference on a pic that i was already very impressed with .

thanks tupla for your reply . ill definately recomend HDMI cables to my friends and family if/when they get HDTV's .
