i've been trying to calibrate my 42 inch plasma recently as sometimes i see a red outline to the left of the image. sort of like a shadow of a red line. the issue is slight but clearly visible when i move the screen to the extreme edge where i can see a blue line on the right side and a red line on the left. from what i've read, i need to do convergence on the unit but there seems to be 2 schools of thought on what the issue is and i was wondering if people can help clarify the issue.

1 a lot fo people with this issue points to the logical board and it seems that no amount of calibration can be done since it's a bad chip

2. white point calibration in factory service menu but i was afraid of playing with the settings too much. here are my settings:
White Balance:
color temp: Normal
WhitePoint red: 127
whitepoint green: 69
whitepoint blue: 72
red balance level: 7
green balance level: 5

Can you return the tv? Plasma's have no physical convergence, so it is definitely a digital convergence issue. You may be able to fix it, but the question is, is it an adjustable feature (through the service menu or pots) or is it really just a bad ic?
Though, it is possible one of your color decoders are making one of the colors too pronounced to where blooming is occuring for just that color...

For option one, you need to do some research to see if it is adjustable. For option two, you need to get a meter and do some readings.

hmm.. is that something warranty will cover? i have bought a 3 year from a popular vendor in this forum and it should still be covered. guess have to mention that my screen does the 1/2 blackout thing via this thread.

Does any of you live in the Detroit Metro area and has a non-functional TV Plasma 42" Philips Model 42PF9630A that you would like to rid of for parts? (I'm just looking for this particular TV, NO OTHER TV'S)
If so, please email me to mmarks@markstechnology.com.

Thank you,
