I am trying to reset my Comcast remote back to factory defaults to setup a new TV and HTIB.

I can not get it to accept any codes because every time I push any button the mode light blinks five times. Holding the setup down and releasing it also causes any mode light to blink five times. And I get NO Flashes after entering any 4 digit code.

I tried pulling the batteries for 30 mins in an attempt to reset the remote, with no luck.

At this point.. I have no idea what is causing it to blink multiple times or how to get it back to the 2 blink process?

PS - The remote does still operate the old TV and Comcast Cable Box

Is THIS (http://www.urcsupport.com/images/uploaded_images/Comcast_M1067A.pdf) your remote? The blinking sounds like you're trying to enter invalid codes. Be sure you press the correct mode button, then press and hold setup, then enter a code (all the codes on this remote start with a 0 or 1).

Yes... Thats my remote. I cant get the remote into progaming mode because holding down the setup button does not blink twice ( as in the directions) It blinks 5 times when pushing any button ( ie. Setup, Volume, or channel)

The first step in programming is to get the setup key to blink twice. Well, I cant get this to work... it blinks 5 times

I hope this states the issue clearly.

If you open the battery door, you'll see 2 rows of three pins. Try very briefly shorting the leftmost and middle pins on either the top or bottom row. You may get 2 blinks then. Press any button and see if it works normally again. Don't do it for long or you could damage the batteries. Just touch the 2 pins at the same time with a paper clip for about half a second.

The older one takes 4-digit codes, the newer one 5-digits. They look identical. Comcast has the 5-digit instructions up on their support pages, just search for "remote control". For the 4-digit one you'll need to scan the web although in general the instructions seem to be the same except for dropping the first digit off the 5-digit codes (and, there are fewer codes on the older device).

Actually, frustration with one of those is what brought me browsing here today. Even with the right code for Power, it won't control my Onkyo reciever properly. Arghh.

So, I suspect you have a new controller and are looking at the older instructions.

I had the same issue. I finally figured out that even though my ok button is grey and not red, I have the custom DVR 3 remote on this page www dot comcast dot com slash corporate slash customers slash customer_support slash remotes.html

I also figured out that the remote was just acting plain wonky. I noticed if i hit the tv key and hit setup one time, i could hit a number key on the pad 5 times before it would revert back to cable. So I took a shot and grabbed a 5 digit code for my tv off the guide, hit TV, hit setup one time, and put in the 5 digit code. I hit power and voila my tv turned off. I did try to hit setup one time and put in the search for code number 991, but since it did not blink twice or do anything that lead me to believe it would search the codes.

Hope this helps.

I suspect the OPs problem is weak batteries.
