Hey fellas,

My mother, who is almost 70, is itching for a larger flat panel TV. She currently is stuck with two old 19" CRT's and she only subscribes to analog cable. Her current cable bill is only $40/month. If she goes digital the intro rate is $60/mon plus box lease fee's. She'd really prefer not to change what she has.

How bad is an analog signal going to look on entry level 32" or 37" flat panel? I have a cheapo 20" SD flat panel in a spare bedroom, and the picture quality is poor. Can I expect the same? Would there be any difference between plasma and LCD in this circumstance?

You might want to look at Vizio's 32" Plasma that is 800x480 res.
The only issue is, it's 16:9 not standard 4:3.

If all she watches is 4:3 (I'm guessing) then just go get a new 30" CRT from Sears or something...

If she likes watching a lot of local television she'll most likely get the digital HD and SD locals with her analog cable, and a new TV's QAM tuner will pick them up with the coax going directly into the RF input (and the NTSC tuner will pick up those analogs as usual).

So she should at least get those local HD and SD digital channels for no extra cost (unless they're one of the rarer companies that scramble them - but most don't).
