Im loooking at 2 camcorders one has a CCD of 1/6th but a x25 optical zoom and the other has a CCD if 1/8 andan optical zoom of x40.
Which is better?
Is the CCD only for normal stills or is it for all of the recording?
he're the 2 camcorders im looking at:
sony dcr sr55
sony dcr sr36e
any help would be appreciated as the shops seem to tell me different things. :mad:

I don't know about these two specific models, but I would choose the 1/6" CCD with 25x optical zoom over the 1/8" and 40x optical zoom. That is because generally, the larger the CCD, the better the picture quality. Also, honestly, 40x zoom is pretty useless as unless you have a very steady tripod. More often than not, that type of zoom power equals very shaky video. Even 25x is too much, I think. Personally, I would use optical zoom up until maybe 12x.

What the guy in the shop didnt make clear was if the ccd was for video images as well as still.
From what i can make out on the net its for both?

The CCD is always used for both still photos and video.
As KyaDawn indicated 40x zoom is pretty useless. I'd always go for the larger CCD since it tends to enhance low light and indoor filming.
