View Full Version : Rumour: New mini in September 9th event benzizbit 09-02-08, 02:41 AM http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/08/26/rumor-apple-telling-retailers-not-to-order-more-inventory  Tweakophyte 09-02-08, 09:02 AM ...keeping my fingers crossed... pkscout 09-03-08, 10:18 AM Another Apple event, another rumor of an updated mini... and a mactablet, and new iMacs, and new MacBooks, and new MacBook Pros, and new iPods, and new iPod touches... Basically it's rumored that Apple will totally revamp their entire product line on the 9th. And then sit on their thumbs during Macworld I guess. I'm not saying it's not possible, but I'd bet on lots of things before a mini update. Genius74 09-03-08, 10:28 AM Id take a $200 price reduction across the mini line if there's no refresh.. JoeD 09-03-08, 11:24 AM yeah I would love an updated one, but the latest rumors say it's only ipods :( chefklc 09-03-08, 11:56 AM I'll tell you what I'd love: I'd like the summer of iPhone love to end, and I'd like to see something, anything, that a Mac home theater enthusiast can get mildly excited by. Don't really care what, just a reason or two to be hopeful. It's been 8 months or so since the AppleTV software and firmware updates (with the price lowered to $229) and it's been 2 months since the free Touch/iPhone remote iTunes app was released...and that's basically been about it. JoeD 09-03-08, 03:43 PM I'll tell you what I'd love: I'd like the summer of iPhone love to end I know what you mean, that's all anyone talks about on the Mac forums. wildrock 09-03-08, 08:29 PM I'll bet there's a new iPod. :D dbfreq 09-04-08, 12:05 AM The MacTouch / iPad / whatever you want to call it is inevitable -- look at the success of netbooks -- how could AAPL miss out on that? The advice Oppenheimer gave during the last earnings call signifies something significant is coming within the next month or two, but I can't see it being the MacTouch.... not yet. I think the MacTouch will come at MacWorld in January, with the early release of 10.6, the OS to unite Mac OS X and iPhone OS X, announced a few months early, just as Apple completed the Intel transition ahead of their announced timetable. 10.6 is the perfect platform for a MacTouch, which will straddle the line between Macs and iPhones. I'm looking forward to it: http://www.slashgear.com/macbook-touch-tipped-to-be-apples-secret-development-2212825.php wildrock 09-09-08, 08:55 PM I'll bet there's a new iPod. :DYep, I was right. Not just one new iPod, but three! Guess we'll have to wait for next year at MacWorld to have some interesting new product to talk about here. Maybe. cavalierlwt 09-10-08, 12:21 AM So, nothing for the mini? Granted it was just a rumor, but I do wonder about the source's (Mac Rumors?) claim that insiders had informed them that Apple had told retailers not to order any more minis. If there were no upgrade happening, would Apple tell Best Buy etc not to order any minis? wildrock 09-10-08, 02:12 AM If there were no upgrade happening, would Apple tell Best Buy etc not to order any minis?Did Apple in fact tell BB that? And if so, might it finally be the end of the Mini as we know it? cavalierlwt 09-10-08, 02:43 AM Did Apple in fact tell BB that? And if so, might it finally be the end of the Mini as we know it? Whoops, I don't want to add a false rumor. :) The article from MacRumors just made reference that Apple was telling "some resellers to halt resupplies of Mac minis, MacBook Pros, iPods and even Cinema Displays" I was mentioning Best Buy as an example of an Apple reseller. As for the end of the Mini, I would imagine Apple would do the exact opposite if they were pulling the plug on the Mini, I would guess they would push Best Buy and others to discount the Mini and clear it out, not hold off on ordering more. As I said, I wonder if any insiders really reported this halt of ordering, or if they just guessed that the Mini was due for a refresh and add a little spice to the actual reports they had received. Further 09-10-08, 02:54 AM Did Apple in fact tell BB that? This entire story was only reported on rumor sites. Apple has officially never said anything about this that I have heard. I think this thread demonstrates pretty well why rumors are nothing more than a distraction from why we are all here - to share and improve our knowledge of htpc on Macs. |
