I'm in the process of establishing my home desktop pc as a video media server to my other computers and my 2 ps3's. I ordered a canon hf100 and haven't received it yet, but in the mean time, i'm trying to setup using my current home videos that are on dvd.

The dvd's have a folder called video_ts that contain a bunch of .vob files. I figured out that the .vob files are in mpeg format. I think mpeg 2.

If I rename the first file, vts_01_1.vob to vts_01_1.mpg, I can double click on it and it shows in windows media player. I can also launch this from a ps3 and it shows up fine. This doesn't work with the other files.

I did some research and found I can combine the .vob files together into one big .vob file using the copy /b command and then rename that with a .mpg extension and it plays fine. The problem is the dvd has 2 hours of video and the mpg file only shows the first hour. The combined file size is over 4 GB. Is there a file size limit for an mpeg file?

If I stick the dvd in a drive, it plays fine on all my devices.

I guess my quick question is, what do I need to do to the raw dvd files to get the whole 2 hours to play on my computers and ps3's via network feeding?

Any help is appreciated.
