I had been experiencing severe program lock ups when trying to calibrate my new Mitsubishi WD-65736 with ColorHCFR. I had started a calibration thread for these TV's in the Rear Projection area and noticed that everyone who was using ColorHCFR and an i1 was having the exact same problem as me. The meter would constantly freeze for 2-5 minutes or your would receive a refresh rate error when trying to calibrate the set.
The past weekend I was able to calibrate my WD-65736 with CalMAN and I can tell you the results compared to ColorHCFR are much more accurate. I am also happy to report that the freezing problems I was having with ColorHCFR are non-existent in CalMAN, which dramatically reduced calibration time. I really wish I would have gone the CalMAN route much sooner as it would have saved me a tremendous amount of time calibrating my TV! One thing that really surprised me was how different the readings were between the two programs. The readings were so different that I actually reset my TV to the factory settings and started from scratch with CalMAN. After testing the settings recommended by each program I think CalMAN looks much more natural and shadow detail could not be better. I hadn't noticed it before, but blues seemed to be over exaggerated and colors seemed a little "muddy" when viewing my set with the settings I came up with when calibrating with ColorHCFR after viewing with my CalMAN settings.
For anyone that is on the fence about going with CalMAN I absolutely recommend going for it! If you are experiencing problems similar to me, look into CalMAN. The amount of time it will save you calibrating your TV and the results you will get make it more than worth the money.
