Yesterday bought a Sony KDL 32L400 32" at BB for $658. The native resolution is 720p. So now I need to buy a new dvd upconverting player that will be used only for SD dvds.
Budget is about $150. Will not consider blue ray in the future.
Will the pq be better if I use HDMI or can I use component from player to the Sony?
Thanks

Upconverting over component is no longer allowed for reasons of Digital Rights Management.
Note that the display will accept any supported signal and convert it to it's native resolution, so technically you don't need an upconverting player.
The Oppo 980 is $169.

Do you currently have a DVD player? If so I would try it. You may see little difference on a 32" inch set. If you need an new player I would go with an upconverting player simply because you can use one HDMI cable to hook it up.
