I'm looking at some 7.1 Onkyo systems, and I notice that on the more expensive ones, the specs show that the receiver will do Dolby TrueHD.

So is it implied that if a receiver will do Dolby TrueHD that it will also accept lesser formats (like the Xbox's plain old Dolby Digital)? Or does it alter the soundtrack?

I would like to hear my games in the native audio format intended, even if it means two of my surrounds are not being used...

Yes. It will do "lesser" formats.
