I bought a new NCAA 2009 for $60 and traded it in for Madden, they gave me $40 credit. Had I bought a used NCAA 2009 for $55 (just $5 less), I could have returned it within 7 days and got $55 credit towards Madden :eek:

And now I'm missing my college football so I'm thinking of re-buying NCAA since most of the reviews after the patch have been pretty good :eek:

I can back this up, they've done this to me as well. "Oh it's our last copy. We had the box on display. Don't worry, it's fine". This was for Soul Caliber. The kid puts it in the box, they had the price tag UNDER the plastic stuff on the binder (the big ugly yellow sticker). I told them forget it and went over to target, got a nice fresh copy. But that's what they do, stupid crap like that. They easily lost a sale from me

They are a pawn shop, and it is best to deal with them as if they are a pawn shop. As confidenceman said, they actively do not want to sell you new product, and vastly prefer when you purchase new product somewhere else. The only exception is when the new product has been preordered, at which point, it will always still be sealed.

Now, massive abuse of the return policy is why there is no longer a 7-day return policy on new games at Gamestop. Don't be a dick by helping to end the return policy on used product as well. Gamestop is a pretty horrible place, and is terrible for the industry in general (hell, piracy is healthier for the industry than used sales are), but is is nice to be able to grab a game, see if I hate it, and return it when I do. It is not nice to be a douche and try to use the return policy as an eternally renewing free rental system.

I had to quit going to gamstop. They beg you to preorder new titles. Then they always say it is available after 2 or 3 pm. I can always walk right next door to BB and get it or even to Walmart no matter what time. Plus they really rip you off on trade ins. Sell it on amazon. You will come out much better.

i happen to like the gamestop next to my work. they never offer me preorders unless i ask about the game first. when i bought mass effect i brought over an empty display box, expecting a disc out of the shelf, but they gave me a manu-sealed copy.

i like shopping for their used games, i like waiting til they drop to a good price.

I like Gamestop when they run their 25% off 360 games(like right now), especially since you can combine it with the 10% off "edge" card. I've cleaned up pretty good the last few days.

The rest of their "new" games are all open box. They claim it's to save space and/or for security purposes. Whatever.

But anyhow, no reason to slam Gamestop for their business model. It's the consumers who are causing the problem by putting up with this treatment. Besides, my two local Gamestops are staffed by chill, reasonable men and women who actually know games pretty well. I don't mind giving them my business from time to time for used games.

I just "bought back" my NCAA 2009 w/ the 25% off coupon for about $43 :eek: I also found a NCAA 2004 for PS2 in their old games pile and I got it for 51 cents :p

I actually like the GameStop by my work. They do occasionally only have 1 copy left of some games and give you the "choice" of purchasing it because the box is on display and the game has been removed for theft reasons. I agree selling your games is more profitable on EBay but ruining GameStop's liberal policy that helps people from being stuck with sucky games by abusing the policy, does not appear to be a good plan for the gaming public in general. Try being nice to the people there, this has gotten me games early, posters, codes for LIVE content and tons of gaming T-Shirts. They have a whole drawer full of stuff to hand out to nice people... like me. :D

They need to stop taking the new games out of the cases. Period.

I use the 25% coupon at GameStop but that's about the extent of my business there. I lucked into a SCIV for 25% off on Saturday so I won't be back until the next coupon comes out. If I'm going to buy new, RewardZone points at Best Buy work out better for me than any discount program GS has...

The coupons they send out in the newsletter are usually pretty nice. 25% off, B1G1 last gen stuff, etc. I never buy anything from them without a coupon stacked on top of the Edge card, and they never give me any grief. I even joked with them that they must hate me for that last time I bought a $55 used game for $37, but they laughed and said they thought it was awesome.

I agree man. I'm always buying crap I don't need when they come out with those coupons and I combine it with the Edge card. Bad for my bank account.

I don't know why people care that they sell you a new game unwrapped. The same policy that applies to used games applies to those new games they sell unwrapped. You can return those also within 7 days for a full refund. I love it when they sell me new games unwrapped.

These days Gamestop is all about undermining the industry that keeps them in business. As has been said by a few others, thier entire business has shifted from selling new games to profiteering by reselling the same game multiple times. It's pretty obvious that intentionally diverting profits form the publishers is going to hurt everyone actually making games. I'm waiting to see if any of the major publishers is going to strike back some how.

If they're the yellow stickers they should come off without damaging the insert.

Still, why in the world they do that is beyond me.

It's to save wear and tear on the stickers (AKA save time and money of having to replace the stickers if they get ruined/fall off).

because they dont want you to regret buying it and return it for full refund. they do it so you cant go somewhere else, buy the game, and return it to them instead, because they know other stores arent at strict at returning games

they did that to me on COD4 for 360, when i bought it, he opened it... didnt care much, after i bought it, i came 2 days later to return it because my 360 got the RROD with it, he said all he could give me was $30 trade in because it was used or a new copy he would open in front of me

You guys realize that they don't see returning used games under the 7 day policy as abuse right? They sell a game for $60. Bought it back for $40(probably much less), resold it for $55. Already up $15(at least). It really starts paying off each time it's resold after that. It helps them for you to bring it back when it's still new.

It's like being at the craps table when someone keeps rolling 6's.

I buy online so the extra $5 goes go the right people.

Nah, it's a retarded thing for them to do. They do it so that doing inventory management is easier on products that are spined out. I have noticed that in my area, only one of the four shops put the third sticker on the spine though. I tend to avoid that shop.

Put me in the hate gamestop camp. The opened "new" games is annoying and i'm never going back there to pick up a new game. But the worst are the douches behind the counter trying to sell pre-orders based on their own made up release dates. I remember they tried to get me to pre-order force unleashed when I bought my ps3 a year and a half ago, saying it would be out in a few months. Plus the last time I was in there, they tried to sell me a copy of Too Human! ha

Personally, I would like them to make it a used price just for the hell of saving a couple of dollars, but look at it as a business/government standpoint.

As long as the game works plus everything in the game that come packaged in it is still there, it doesn't bother me if they sell it.

Plus it isn't a GameStop thing only, GameCrazy, PlayNTrade, and any store like it does the same exact thing.

I've purchased plenty of new games from Gamestop and have never received an open box.

It isn't a horrible store policy, since I am guessing most of the money obtained from selling a new copy of a game doesn't go to the store itself.

It makes sense that they do it, better for the developers, they need their money. Plus at the same time, no one is forcing you to buy them, you can whine all you want about it, it will never change.
