don't you basement media room types feel a little shallow after reading this article?
I obviously agree with this line: "Things you can't get away with on a main level you can put into a basement,"

I don't know... I have never liked basements. That one is very nice, but the main floor for me is where I want all my most used areas..
When we renovated our home, we designed a first floor theater... It is right off the family room where we have a bar, pool table, pinball, Wii, plasma, etc. It worked out great! Moreover, it is divorced somewhat from the main structure so little is heard when cranked up except some window ratting and vibration in the master bed room... SO we didn't need to buy a vibrating bed..
My basement is a finished space with wall to wall storage, HVAC, electrical panels and a small wine cellar (800 bottle).

Basement=Area that sooner or later will be flooded :D
Peter, perhaps true in NC, but here in CA, we don't have that concern. However, we do worry about flooding in the form of my garage caving in on me during a 8.0 earthquake, though my civil engineer says no worries.

Jeff, if 800 is a small wine cellar then I guess you tell people you have a little theatre with modest bass output!
Speaking of wine cellars, that one in the portfolio linked is unbelievable. Wow, the rich sure have nice stuff!

Im not a fan of basement media rooms or HTs , but I do think that with some thought and planning, truly great inventive use can be made of these spaces.
