i just brought home a time warner cable box model 4250HDC with remote. i have a sylvania LC195SL9A tv and none of the pre programed codes will work. any suggestions on what i can do to get more codes to try?

Sorry but you're out of luck, NO preprogrammed universal or oem remote has preset code for the current sylvania/Emersons models. You need an aftermarket learning universal remote, and use the sylvania remote to teach it the commands.

Some cheap learning remotes are the Sony rm-vl600, URC R6, Radio shack 15-133, 15-134, and 15-135.
