View Full Version : Problem with Logitech 890 and Onkyo 606 Volume control
Picked up an 890 the other night and finally got to programming it last night. I set up the basic activities like watch TV and watch DVD. My equipment is a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD cable box, Onkyo TX-SR606, and and Epson Home Cinema 1080p UB. The activities all worked great, I have only set them up via IR right now to make sure everything works. Well, everything works EXCEPT, I cannot get the receiver volume to turn UP, but it will turn down. I tried manually programming that button by butting the two remotes together and firing off the volume up command from the Onkyo remote. The Logitech seemed to understand it and changed the button roster as it should, however, it still does not work. Any ideas?
BillyBeatnik 09-03-08, 10:25 AM Does the volume up button work on the TV? If not, there may be something wrong with the remote.
Are you getting any indication that the button is sending a signal when you press the volume up button?
You might want to call Harmony support. If the volume up command for the 606 is not correct, they can probably walk you through fixing it.
BillyBeatnik 09-03-08, 10:36 AM After teaching the volume up button from the Onkyo remote, did you click Update to send the changes to the remote?
Well, i have a projector, so no way of knowing if the tv volume works. I assume it's some sort of compatability issue being that the volume down button works.
And yes, I did update the remote after making the change.
I suppose I could program in my other Onkyo receiver to see if it works on that one to rule out the button as being completely dead.

For button testing purposes just program any command to Volume Up and see if you get a response. Hell, program Volume Down to the Volume Up button and program Volume Up to the Volume Down button. This way you would be able to see if it is the command or the button.
I'll give it a shot tonight and let you guys know.
BillyBeatnik 09-03-08, 11:39 AM My Harmony 670 works on my Onkyo TX-SR603. I would assume the volume control commands are the same on the 603 and 606. For testing purposes, you might try adding the TX-SR603 and see if the volume up key works. If the volume up does not work but the volume down still does, then it is the remote more than likely.
The Harmony 890 and 670 use the same database, so volume up would be the same on both.
By the way, if you change to Device mode and select the 606 do the volume buttons work?
^ I was thinking of trying a different receiver database. No, the button still does not work even in device mode.
Beerstalker 09-03-08, 05:09 PM I'm with the other guys here, you most likely have a problem with the button itself, and not the Volume up command. You can try assigning a different command that you know works to the volume up button, or try assigning the volume up command to a different button, and check to see what works then.
There have been a few reports of people having toruble with the volume buttons on the 880/890 in the past. This is most likely your problem. Return the remote and get another one, or call Harmony support and they should send you a new one as long as you are under your warranty.
Ok, I tried assigning a different command and it still doesn't work. Should I assume this button is dead? Awesome. Guess I'll just take it back.

I would take it back. It sounds defective.
bryansj 09-04-08, 08:23 AM Return it. I had a button issue with an 890 myself, but it was because I dropped it on a hardwood floor.
