I have looked on several if not all of the associated sites that have service menu info but have been unable to find the sevice menu definitions for the Ruby (VPL-VW100). I can get to the service menu, but want to know what each of the setting mean. Does anyone know where I can find this info or can someone send it to me? What also would be nice is know what all the default code settings are as well.
Thanks,
Stay out of the service mode on this product. I have seen several calibrator and consumer attempts at adjusting these and it has made things worse. I have also experimented with various suggestions offered on AVS and none made any improvement I could see in test patterns. All that you need is in the user mode.

I did not want to mess around in the service menu as much as verify that my service menu is set at defaults (factory settings). I say this because when I first got the project I went into the service menu and messed around and now that I am calibrating the projector my colors are way off. I am thinking that maybe I changed something back when I first got it that is affecting my colors. Or is there a reset feature that will set all the service codes back to default?

I am not sure how you will verify it or reset it. The memory structure of these products is very complex. You might try a different picture mode if you think you messed one of them up. That is what I do when another calibrator has messed it up.

Interesting. So each picture mode is dependent of the service menu settings? So if I pick a different picture mode that I know was never changed under service menu, then theorectically it will use service menu defaults?

It depends on what parameters you change, but many are dependent on the picture mode, resolution and input type. Like I said the sevice mode parameter structure is much more complex than most people realize. I find changing picture mode will wipe out the errors others have introduced which is much easier if it works than trying to find exactly what they fouled up. This solution also has zero risk.
You may also need to choose a different color temperature.
This is one of the more frustating things I have to deal with. Frequently clients do not tell me others have worked on the display until I comment that their product is behaving very strangely. Then I find out I am dealing with a mess. This is the best method I have found to deal with this on your product. You can do with it as you choose.

Some parameters are global, some are stored by picture mode, and some are stored by input type and signal rate.
Some parameters have defined initial settings, some do not.
I would follow the advice above and stay out of the service menu. I you must, at least get a copy of the service manual for the set. Do not expect it to explain everything nor to get any help from Sony figuring it out. They rarely give out much beyond the service and training manuals to authorized service techs, and generally will not even discuss it with consumers or non-authorized servicers and calibrators.
