I just got the Pioneer Kuro 5080 the other day and wanted to calibrate it as best I can.
I've picked up the DVE NTSC DVD but am wondering if I need to get the HD-DVD/Blu-ray versions of DVE to properly calibrate my TV.
Does it make a difference in terms of actual calibration (i.e: colour wheels differ between the DVD and HD version)?
Thanks,
Mo

Perhaps it will help if you rephrase your question. There are no color wheels in plasma TVs, nor are there any in the DVDs you mention. Do you own both an HD DVD player and a Blu-ray player?

Fair enough.
How about, would it look any different if I calibrated my TV using the DVD vs the HD-DVD/Bluray version? Are there different tests that are specifically meant for HDTV's that aren't on the original DVD?
Hopefully that's a bit more clear.
Thanks.

Greetings
No ... the patterns are about the same ... but it is always a good idea to run it both ways to make sure both signal types are close or far off ...
Usually the optimal setting for brightness on sD material might be off on the HD material. It's more of a TV thing ... not a problem with the standards.

Well, if you put a DVD in an Hd player, you're just really calibrating the DVD playback side of it. The standards for HD content and SD content differ slightly. If the player handles both correctly, it should end up properly calibrated for both since you'll mainly be aligning levels which should be the same for both. But that's a large assumption, I've run into numerous players that do different things depending on how you output the signal, etc etc. If you want to calibrate properly both DVD and BRD, you need two test sources.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up.
