Greetings,
I have 3 DCI compliant projectors (Barco DP100, DP1500, NEC iS8) and have gotten to know them fairly well. It is my job to keep them up and running and keep the color on track. For someone responsible for color I hate to say it but I don't know what the P7v2 color setting means. It is my understanding that until recently P7v2 was the standard for digital cinema but now it is P3. Can anyone tell me what these mean and/or point me in the right direction. I am curious to know exactly (technically) what they do and how the two are different.

Thanks for any info or suggestions.

The 'P' referrs to the defined primary points (plus white). TI went through several iterations before DCI finally set the standard. P7v2 was the last iteration before the DCI spec and has the same white point as defined by TI, .314, .351. DCI defined the color space to by XYZ, basically all that could ever possibly be displayed, not limited by current projection technologies.

Current - DCI
W - .314, .351
R - 1, 0
G - 0, 1
B - 0, 0

P7v2
W - .314, .351
R - .665, .312
G - .265, .690
B - .140, .070
Y - .457, .522
C - .176, .337
M -.373, .178

P3
W - .333, .334
R - .680, .320
G - .265, .690
B - .140, .070

And are there any projectors in teh sub 10K realm that can do P3?

Even if we have to LUT them?
