Hi,

I just bought this DVD Recorder last week, and I have a problem that I can't resolve.

I did some recordings of program on the HDD (in SP Mode), then I copied one recording on a DVD rewritable (Memorex DVD+RW). That was easy whitout problem.

I then copied the content of the DVD on my PC, and I erased the content of the DVD whit either Nero or Roxio.

That where the problem begins: I tried to copy another recording from the Pionner to the same DVD rewritable that I erased, and the DVD recorder gave me that message : please load a recordable disc.

I erased the content of the DVD either with Nero, Roxio, or Windows explorer on two DVD rewritable that I used, and I always have the same problem.

I don't want to use a new blank DVD rewitable each time.

Anyone have a suggestion to help me ?

Thank you

Ric

I've had issues with some burners and/or some software not erasing a disc in exactly the right way that other units expect-- so when you next go to use that disc, it looks empty but unwritable. Sometimes you can recover them by doing a Full Erase (not a quick erase), sometimes you need to do it in a different burner, or try a different program. It's a weird glitch I've never quite figured out. (I do know PlexTools with my older Plextor burner doesn't seem to erase a disc correctly, for example-- or at least it produces a disc my Toshiba sees as non-writable)

My best suggestion would be to erase the disc with your Pioneer-- if you even have to, at least on the Toshibas you can just pop in a full RW disc and it will warn you the disc is full and that you're going to overwrite it and you just say OK.

That said, RW discs do die, and much faster than you'd expect. Memorex media is not highly regarded and it's possible the disc did fail after 1 use (I've had that happen, too). You might want to try to find some Verbatim, or possibly Sony, RW media for further testing.

thank you for your fast answer.

I will use with a Sony RW and i will try your suggestion to erase the content with the Pioneer recorder.

Thanks a lot again.

R/W media is not all its cracked up to be: if you're one of the unlucky minority dogged by R/W failures, they can be a giant pain. If you intend to constantly move recordings from the Pioneer 660 to a PC, you might consider using DVD-RAM discs instead. They aren't perfect, either, but on the whole are more reliable as eraseable media. The formatting/erasing of DVD-RAM is way more standardized and uniform across brands and burners and recorders than R/W. Unfortunately you would need to install a RAM-capable reader in your PC if you don't already have one, and you would need editing/ripping software that can understand the DVD-RAM spec.

I assume that I understand your issue, if so, you need to re-format the rw disc in the pioneer using the disc setup option. Formatting it and/or erasing it in Nero will not be enough for the pioneer to read it.

Hi,

thank you my friends for your suggestions; it help me a lot.

I solve my problem; I use now only Verbatin DVD+RW (Boo! for Memorex), and as Grocky and Jmscott42 answered me, I need to initialize the DVD after each recording with the Pioneer recorder, to made it usable again. Nero or Roxio are not useful for that.

Later, I will also try the suggestion of CitiBear, using a DVD- RAM. My Pc can read DVD-RAM, so I have only to buy one now.

Thank you again; this forum was very useful.
