I'd like XVID playback. $30 DVD players do it...

re-instating AVCHD support from dvd

Well, I was all set to get one of these til I heard it doesn't display 4x3 content on regular DVDs properly- until it can show 4x3 with black bars on the side, without having to first see a stretched picture and push buttons on the TV or player, and then automatically switch back to 16x9 when appropriate, this player is off my wish list. I'll just have to hope Oppo delivers a Blu-Ray player with proper region-free upconverting.

The two most important issues that must be addressed are the bitstream bugs, and the stretching of standard DVD content.

In order (for me at least):

1) Fix Bitstream issues
2) Properly display 4x3 content
3) Profile 2.0 support
4) Netflix streaming

I agree, but would like to add a two more items that are more tweak than a fix:

5) a slightly better info screen = add which video encoding used
6) both a time elapsed, and time left bar on the bottom (as in maybe press the display button once for the original screen, twice for this, and a thrid time to close)
7) bit rate meter for the video, and audio rate

Mainly, these are like what the PS3 shows, and is quite helpful when testing or tweaking. But for sure, #'s 1, 2, and 3.

I can't remember which one, Sony S350 or Samsung 2550, but one of them had a cool feature where it would call up a color photo (a group of kids I believe), and you could adjust the screen while veiwing that pic. Kind of neat.

Wait, isn't it the LG BH200 that brings up the picture of the kids when you tweak the user video settings?

DUH! Maybe it is LOL. I have gone through so many now, I can't keep track hehehe. But I sooooooooooo want this one to be the keeper.

Boy, I was just watching a Netflix rental of the 2nd Narnia series from BBC TV (not as good as the movies of course, but still decent), and I was getting very sleepy, and it sure would have been nice to see how much more time was left to play . . . .

Ugh- this thing doesn't have a time-remaining display either? I feel lost without that- the only component I had which left that 'feature' out was a Sony 10-disc CD changer- it would show the time remaining for the track playing but not the entire disc. Main reason it went back to the store real quick. At least on a record player you can eyeball how much time is left!

Some standard DVDs are authored to have no time display at all (the player just says "PLAY" all the way through it) but some players can get around that somehow.

As long as we're still wishing for stuff, it'd be nice to also have DVD-Audio and SACD playback, CD+Graphics would be nice too. If any one machine can deliver all that I'll forgive the omission of laserdisc support ;)

That is the BH200, and that's what I have a problem with. A picture of kids is not the same as HD test patterns, SD test patterns, nor live video. I'd really like to tweak the output of the BH200 because I have the TV input calibrated for the HD-DVR (which doesn't have any adjustments), and I'd like the BH200 to match that as close as possible so I don't have to fiddle with my TV settings every time I play a disc-based movie.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear the BH200 doesn't have the hardware needed for Netflix. Personally I'd consider the BD300 if I wanted that.

Personally I'd love a "time remaining" feature. That's probably my biggest gripe. The remote is also a little unresponsive, compared to most DVD Players I've ever used. Some of the bugs in the bugs thread to be fixed would be cool too. Especially the SACD bug, as that one affects me. I have to use a different player when listening to the CD layer of my SACDs.

As the BH200 has internal memory (but how much????), and can use USB flash memory (of any size I beleive??? I use a 4 GIG right now), it could be possible to cache video as it is streamed. But I would much rather have BD Live enabled first (or if a choice of either/or).

Network playback, even if it's only for the currently supported codecs (MPEG2, VC1, H.264/AVC) and even if we have to follow some weird folder structure (like with AVCHD)! That would make me to buy another one - a perfect match with my NAS! :cool:
