First off, I want to apologize for another thread in this category. I've searched and searched, and well... I still have no clue.

This is my current set-up. 32" Sony Bravia KDL-32S3000, Dish Network VIP211, Toshiba HD-A30, and an old school JVC HR-A47U(VCR) I just recently found in my spare bedroom's closet. I hooked up the JVC for giggles basically, but actually I was intrigued by the syncing between my Dish and the VCR. But I want more!!! This brings me here. Standard VCR PQ is horrible(but tolerable I suppose), even with every tweak known to man. I did dig out my Monster THX video cable, Monster coax cable, and my MIT rca cables. Did improve somewhat, but no where near what I'd like. I want a DVD recorder.

What I want to do with the recorder is basically to record from my Dish VIP211. I'll mostly record sports(football, basketball, motor sports), music events(concerts), and occasionally movies. So I think I need tunerless.

What I'd like from the recorder is decent upscaling, and the ability to edit out commercials(is this even possible?.) What can I expect going from 1080i to 480i back to 1080i? Also, is it possible to be recording lets say a football game from my Dish, and watch a complete different game while the other is recording? Is this the pros of having a tuner based recorder?

Models I have been looking at are: Sony RDRGX360, Toshiba DR410, LG DR787T, and even a VCR DVD combo Samsung DVD-VR375.

Please Help me! I went to my local Best Buy and Circuit City... those guys didn't have a clue either. Any info will be greatly appreciated! Sorry for the long post!

Philips 3576H or Magnavox H2160.

There are threads here on both you can research.

Or, for a cheaper solution (but not as good) the non-hard drive, tunerless Panasonic DMR-EA18K. Uses DVD-RAM, which is the best type disc for timeshifting and editing out commercials.
